Hey lovely bees 🙂
Thanks for your congratulations. After a day of winding down from our trip I can finally share our story- sorry that it’s long lol.
We left for Rome on Thursday. Somewhere neither of us had ever been, but somewhere he was insistent on visiting. His reason being that it was a romantic place to go and there’d be lots of beautiful sites to see. I knew he had the ring already so naturally I was wondering whether this would be it. Although I’d suspected as much before and been a little blue when it hadn’t happened so I told myself not to get too excited in case it came to nothing.
So, after arriving in Rome and then spending all day Friday exploring all of the most famous sites including the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon, we returned to the hotel to get ready for the evening. We were tired from walking but decided to make an effort and get dressed up (something he seemed keen for us to do- major clue lol) to go out for dinner. He said he thought it might be nice to go for a walk after dinner, and also suggested that we visit the Castel d’sant Angelo and the Bridge of Angels as we hadn’t been there yet. I definitely thought the proposal was possible, but still didn’t want to second guess him.
We chose to eat at a beautiful restaurant near to the Piazza Navona (a popular spot for bars and restaurants) but just far enough from it to be secluded. It was perfect.
After dinner, we strolled across the street and took a walk onto the Bridge of Angels, taking some photos as we went. He suggested we walk down the steps at the side of the bridge and take some pictures of the scenery (seeing as the bridge and castle were both lit up and we could walk along the edge of the River Tiber too).
We walked down the steps and took some pictures of the view before he said we should sit down for a sec. As we perched ourself on a wall at the bottom of the steps, he told me how perfect the evening had been and how special I was to him. (Major bells ringing here lol). We stood up and hugged each other, and as we were hugging I could feel that he was fumbling with something. He told me he loved me and that I made him so happy, he also said: “You know when you asked me whether I was looking forward to tonight, and I said I was just looking forward to trying out the restaurant? I lied…I think it’s about time I asked you properly, isn’t it?”
I felt butterflies in my stomach- I started to cry as he got down on one knee and asked me the big question. I believe my response was ‘Oh my God, yes, of course I will!’ lol.
It was the single most romantic and unforgettable moment of my entire life. After we’d dried our tears, we went back up the steps to the bridge, and spent the next hour strolling hand in hand. It sounds so corny, but it really did feel like it was just the two of us.
Thanks for listening bees After reading so many of your stories, I was so looking forward to sharing mine with all of you. Now to wind myself down from the engagement high lol.
