I’ve been reading some of the responses to questions about taking your husbands surname after marriage, and noticed that some of you plan to use your maiden name as a middle name.
I really love this idea but I’m curious… Are you doing this only where your maiden name also sounds like a first name, eg Taylor? Or are you doing it even where your surname is clearly a surname, like O’Brien??
Any responses greatly appreciated! I am currently planning to take on my FIs Chinese surname, just not sure what to do with my Indian maiden name just yet! It def does NOT sound like a first name haha

I’m going to make my maiden name my middle name and it definitely sounds like a last name. My Mom did the same.

@sydneygal444: I tacked my Chinese last name onto my long Poynesian namewhen I took my husband’s Caucasion name. It definitely doesn’t sound like a middle name.

My maiden name became my middle name and it is just a regular last name.

I have a big long Polish maiden name that is quite clearly a surname as a middle name that I’ll be using with my FI’s one syllable last name. I’m doing it because I’ve made myself professionally with my last name, and still want to be able to use it on resumes/business cards/etc. If I didn’t have a job that required networking, I’d probably drop my maiden name for good.

My maiden name is nothing like a first name, and I made it my middle name.

My parents made my mother’s middle name part of our names, so we have four parts to our names: First name FirstMiddle name MotherMaiden name Last name. Our first-middle names are regular names. When I was married the first time, I dropped my mother’s maiden name, moved my last name into the second-middle-name slot, and took ExH’s last name. Hope that helps!

Wow, super helpful everyone! Thank you so much!
That was exactly what I wanted to hear also 🙂 Looks like I will proceed with my Indian first name, Indian surname as middle name and Chinese surname! I’ve never had a middle name before, kinda exciting 🙂
