I am the least techie person ever. I think blu ray players do work with older TVs but you miss a lot of the benefits of using one if you are using it with an older model TV. The biggest plus to using a blu ray player in my opinion is the crisp, clear HD image…which you won’t get if you are using an older, out of date television set.

@Sweet.Sugar.Rose:  Depends on the TV. You might be able to but there is absolutely no point, really. A BluRay is a high definition format, so what would be the point in using it with a standard definition TV?

I agree with the above, and you also have to think about the cables to buy with the blu-ray player.  HDMI cables are usually what is used but I think there are still standard a/v outlets on the players.  I would get a new TV before the blu-ray.

@Sweet.Sugar.Rose:  Hmm, well maybe you can give them a gift card for the store they are looking to buy the TV that will help them go towards the cost of it?

@Sweet.Sugar.Rose:  I know what you mean about gift cards…that’s what I end up using for my nieces, lol.  They are babies and their moms know what clothes/shoes/other items are best needed, lol.
