My fiance and I are planning for a family-based wedding next summer. Unfortunately we are already getting a ton of pressure from our families so we know this is not going to be a fun experience. We have decided to elope at the courthouse next week.
I’d like to know if there is something I’m not thinking about as far as keeping this secret for a few months. I will be changing my name this month. We are still going to have a ceremony with family, but we’d like to do it our way first, if that makes sense. We also want the car and health insurance benefits sooner rather than later.
I am in no way tied to my family by documents. There is one shared bank account, but I do not have to change it at that particular bank. I am on my own health insurance, and pay my own taxes (not claimed as a dependant). I have a book of checks with my maiden name on them should I need to write a check to a family member. They don’t have access to any of my mail or my wallet on a regular basis.
Like I said, I’m thinking that I have my bases covered, but I just want to make sure there’s not something I didn’t consider. I just need to make it for a few months.
