Someone on etsy can send me an EMPTY package, and etsy will side with the seller, no question?
I was reading about some bees who gpt scammed by an etsy seller, and searched the shop name and others posts came up from other bees. A few said that this is what happened.
Is that true? That makes me want to sick with ebay.
yikes!

I don’t think it happens often.
Ive purchased off etsy like 50 times and never had a problem.
but I’ve been screwed by eBay more then once so I refuse to use eBay

I’ve never really had any problems with Etsy. If I have any doubt I look at their feedback to see. There are some really amazing shops there 🙂

@RockStar33: yeah, but every time I’m screwed by ebay-they’ve got my back! They never leave me hanging like that. If etsy’s policy is “it shipped-it’s right” Then that’s a WHOLE lot of scary O.O

I used Etsy for pretty much all of my attendant gifts and bridal jewelry, etc, and only had one problem, which was immediately rectified by the seller. Like the other posters have said, just make sure to read feedback before purchasing.

@MissFireFlower: Yea i have heard of one particular seller who does seem to be a scam artist and sometimes the feedback is misleading I know in that sellers case she was holding products hostage till she got a postitive feed back thats why some of them were blank with no actual comments. I have order a few things from Etsy and have yet to encounter a problem. I usully like to email the shop owner before I do purchase something so I have some sort of verbal back and forth. Makes me feel better atleast!

+1 to this comment, I’ve never had a problem on Etsy but you KNOW if you have a problem on Ebay you’re getting ALL your money back. Makes me wary to be a seller on Ebay because they ALWAYS side with the buyer.

I didn’t send the item I’m thinking about back, but after a week it wasn’t holding up as hoped. I messaged the seller and they fixed the problem. I would assume how that is handled and “goes” is going to vary by seller though.
Also, I wanted to order a custom ring holder from an Etsy seller, they said they’d send me pictures in a week. A week went by and I heard nothing, I messaged them, another week went by. I wish they had feedback options for that! Luckily I hadn’t paid yet but still, if you don’t want to do the work, take your storefront down!

If you paid with Paypal might be able to dispute it through them. Most of eBay disputes are through Paypal as well.

@MissFireFlower: yeah i actually bought 4 pairs of earings for my bridesmaids..they came and looked NOTHING like the picture. the picture looked big and like they were crystals..they came and they were TINY and plastic..like the ones kids wear with their disney outfits..i contacted her and let her know i was returning them and she said no problem. sent them back and as soon as she recieved them she gave me a full refund
it was the only time i ever returned something and it was easy. other than that i ordered everything from etsy for our upcoming wedding and they were all great! hope that helps 🙂

@mchitt329: Just gotta say this isn’t always the case.. Fiance once ordered a bike part that turned out to be cracked, eBay sided with the seller and Fiance was left with a useless part.
I’ve never filed a complaint with eBay, but with Etsy, to get your money back I don’t think Etsy has any power over it; you’d need to contact Paypal within 90 days of your purchase, or contact your credit card company (and you might be screwed if you pay directly from your bank account through paypal or if you pay through a check/money order). I think the most Etsy can do is close down the seller’s shop. I have gotten screwed; Etsy shut down the shop but because the transaction was over 90 days old from my bank account so Paypal said sorry charlie :/

I bought a lot of things for my wedding on Etsy, and never had a problem. If you pay through PayPal, you have most of the same protection as you do on Ebay to my knowledge. Sure, there is the occasional scam artist, but there are plenty of those on Ebay as well.

I have been scammed sooooo many times through ebay and paypal. Something I hate about paypal is their 45 day limit. I ordered some paintings, paid for them and then the artist “worked” on them. She never sent them to me and since it was after the 45 days I was scammed out of my money. 45 days isn’t short enough for custom work to be done. err.
