Like most of you here, I turn to the all knowing internet to find inspiration, price comparisons, etc.
Well, I knew from the beginning I wanted to have some sort of punch/tea/lemonade as a non-alcoholic option (plus outdoors, mid-afternoon, ‘family bbq/picnic’ vibe, so it works).
But outdoors= bugs, so open punch bowls/pitchers.. meh I wasn’t feeling so much.
This I dig, very much. Especially the delicious looking fruit pieces.
However, a little online scouring left me frowning. First of all the cost isn’t too unbelievable, but the weight of some of the items, and the fact that I would be shipping glass..well the concern certainly adds up.
The Container Store : from $11.99 – 19.99 (plus shipping)
60 oz jar from Amazon :$22.90 (s&h) -Acrylic. (60 oz is half a gal).
1 gal. jar from Amazon :$9.99 (s&h)
Large ‘Apothecary Jar’ from Amazon: $80.50! (+s&h)
2 gal. Apothecary Jar from The City Pantry : $42.90 (s&h)
Save On Crafts has a 3 set for $22 (but they don’t give volume!)
Has anyone else out there used these types of jars for their reception (or just in general?) How much did you spend? If you ordered online, what site did you use, how fast/ridiculous was the shipping? And last but not least,
My biggest concern is the larger you go, the higher the cost (obviously), but how large (2 gal. 4gal.?) should they each be to hold a decent amount of punch? Obviously more could/would be made ‘behind the scenes’ etc, but what size would be good as to not have to refill them so often/quickly?
We are self catering, so getting them that way is pretty much out. I’ve talked briefly with a local rental company (they rent everything from linens to chainsaws) and they don’t seem to have any idea what I am talking about.
I also poked around in the classifieds section here, but with no luck.
So, anyone that can give me any details or advice I would greatly appreciate it!
