So to start I’d like to share how much of a nightmare I thought our registry would be:
My fiance is a huge environmentalist (and I am too…to an extent), minimalist, and self described tech-nerd. Being the tech person that he is he thought it was completely acceptable to register for EVERYTHING on Amazon, which didn’t quite fly with me. As an environmentalist he wanted to have microfiber bath towels and environmentally friendly flatware and dishes which are something that are only found at specialty shops and online – not registry friendly. As a minimalist, it makes it hard to reason with him why we need dishes specifically for serving food – “why not just scoop it out of the pot!”
And now for the hardest part – he also doesn’t understand the need/want for fine china – “we’re not having dinner parties any time soon!” One day, when our parents are a bit older we will be the ones having family gatherings over the holidays. Ever since I was a little girl I have loved setting the table with my mother’s china for the holidays – even now at 27 years old seeing the table nicely set is still one of my favorite parts of family get togethers. Fine china is the one thing I was soooo excited to register for – there’s just something about it! I love it! But…he wants nothing to do with it and thinks it’s an absolute waste of money for guests to spend. It was really the one thing he said absolutely not to. Him not wanting anything to do with registering for china has been really hard to swallow.
Needless to say I thought it was going to be difficult for us to find things to register for that we were both happy with. We decided that I would take care of household items at a traditional registry at BB&B and Kohls and he could register for things that are a little more “man oriented” on Amazon.
So today I started my portion of our registry and thankfully he’s happy with almost everything I chose (he still wants to find microfiber bath towels!) I went with a girlfriend as my helper because my mom lives far away. What he doesn’t know is that I did in fact register for china and I LOVE IT! May I introduce you to the Lennox Tribeca:
It was the first one I was drawn to and the only one that fits the criteria (timless and simple) what I was looking for – basically it’s perfect!
Eventually he’ll find out what I did and I will cross that bridge when we get there. I’m hoping that one day he’ll thank me for making this decision!
Anyone else put things on their registry that Fiance wasn’t too thrilled about?
