The very first save-the-date I ever saw was a nice design featuring text only. I think it’s fine to not have a photo.

It’s perfectly fine to do one without a photo.

To be honest, I put the date in my calendar & end up tossing them out anyway because I don’t like clutter.  I never have the heart to tell my friends but invitations & Save-The-Date Cards all go in the trash right after the wedding.

We did one without a photo and they turned out great. There are so many beautiful designs to choose from!

@riakd:  Hahaha I’m glad to hear that! I alway feel bad because I know people spend money/time on them, but what am I suppose to do with them? Let them sit in a box collecting dust & taking up space? Pull them out once a year & wax poetically about love? Create a scrap book for each wedding I’ve been to?

It’s one of those things brides stress over so much, but really doesn’t make a difference to other people (and that’s what I’m keeping in mind rather than buying the handpainted invites that I love).

Ours didn’t have a photo.   The person at the store said photos are on the way out and traditionally they never had photos anyway!

@BagsnBooks:  Exactly! This is why we’re doing an electronic STD using evite. Only 2 guests are elderly and not “plugged in” so to speak, so for them we’ll just tell them in person. Although since our wedding is across the country where I grew up I don’t think they’ll attend anyway.

I had one couple use actual post cards. They were cards of Syracuse where the wedding was, it was cute.

There’s tons of cute save the date designs that don’t use photos, if you check out any invite site they’ll have a ton! Usually it’s just a pretty pattern with some cool font, here’s what ours looked like. They took forever to pick out because I wanted to choose save the dates that matched our invites, which I wanted to match the overall tone of the wedding. But they turned out perfect!

personally, we preferred no photos I felt it looked classier and that the photo std’s are overdone – my friends and family loved them and we got tons of compliments!
