I don’t think an outside wedding in Florida in August is something anyone would find enjoyable.  Also that time of year it rains every single day around mid-late afternoon, that’s how bad the humidity is, and this was in Gainesville which is northern Florida. Really is true tropical weather.

milabeehappy :  wow, that is a huge wrench in your plans! Sorry bee! I think outdoors in FL will be pretty brutal. Hot and muggy for sure!! I think a tent with fans would be too uncomfortable.

I would say have it indoors, or accept that there are potentially people who will not be able to make it to your wedding – then decide which is more important.

milabeehappy :  I love St. Augustine! What about an indoor/outdoor venue? Is there a venue with the option to have both?

August in Flordia can be quite unbearable. While it is possible that the weather will be perfect, the likely hood is smaller. How about an hour north of St. Augustine? Look at St. Siamons or Jekyll? Both have the option of indoor/outdoor venues…

Love this place:

Attended a beach front wedding here with a hotel reception and it was beyond beautiful:

milabeehappy :  Any way you look at it FL in August is going to be miserable, even with fans.

You may be able to get away with a short outdoor ceremony and an indoor reception if you could find a venue to accomodate that, but I would not have a reception outdoors.

There is also the rain to take into account, thunderstorms happen almost every afternoon in FL in the summer.

You’re a little better off in St. Augustine than more south or on the west coast, but I still wouldn’t put your guests through the heat, especially if they are not used to it.

If you are not used to the humidity of FL  you may be uncomfortable. From the pictures of the venue there seems to be a lot of shade, so that is a plus.  It seems to rain every afternoon in FL like clock-work during the summer and that is something you will have to plan around.  August is also the beginning of hurricane season and you are less likely to have a hurricane spoil your plans compared to October.  Tough choice.  I think in the end I would plan so family can attend over my weather prefrences.

Maybe if you had a really short ceremony and everything else be inside? Reception NEEDS to be inside because your food and cake will melt and go bad in an instant if they’re outside.  Not to mention your guests will not appreciate it at all.

milabeehappy :  I used to live there, summer is MISERABLE in FL. Winter, is wonderful. Although really you take your chances there, too, because it’s hurricane season.

Sorry bee…but Florida in August is so gross. Not to mention, many folks are watching out for mosquitos and Zika.

Have you guys looked into a double robo type solution? You can rent (not sure where in FL) a essentially rolling ipad with a skype call to someone far away. So they can “be there” without being there?

milabeehappy :  an outdoor wedding in August in Florida will be an absolute nightmare. As a guest I would have to seriously consider whether or not I wanted to attend that event.

I have to wonder if your future brother in law is genuinely unable to arrange his schedule to attend your wedding as originally scheduled, with over a year’s notice OR if he just doesn’t want to inconvenience himself? If it is the latter, I would not adjust my plans to accommodate him.

August outdoor in florida is cruel and unusual punishment. Why is BILs schedule so strict? I also would not be planning my life around him.

FL outside in August should really be considered a no-go.  I live several states north of FL and the bride in the wedding we are going to next weekend apparently “had to have” an outdoor ceremony and I don’t think any of the guests are going to be happy because it is 100 degrees and humid out right now.
