Hi, has anyone transformed her strappless wedding dress into a one-shoulder one?
I love my dress, I love how it fits and everything about it, but I’ve always dreamed of getting married on a one shoulder dress. My dress is strapless. Could I add a strap and make it one shoulder? Has anyone done it before? If so, please, please, pretty please post pictures, so I can see how it looks 🙂
Oh, and here is a picture of my dress (I’m wearing a sample dress). Thank you!!

its possible. my dress is Tia by modern trosusea- its similar and it comes with or without the strap.

Its definitely possible. There are lots of one strap dresses that have detachable straps so its basically the same thing.

What kind of strap are you asking about? I’m picturing a spaghetti strap, which honestly I think would look extremely weird. But if it’s not spaghetti then I think it would work. Get a great seamstress! She can use the fabric from alterations to possibly make a strap.

More than likely you can. I know a lot of times you can add cap sleves so adding one strap should be an easy one.

Mori Lee has a huge selection of one shoulder straps. I would contact a shop that carries Mori Lee and they can order you one. They should have a catalog to look at.

Thank you for all your answers !!
Thank you for the tip on Morilee, I’ll definetly look into that. (I was already stressing on where I was going to get the fabric for the strap :p).
Oh, and to answer kperry3, no, of course is not a spaghetti strap! Hahaha, that would look really funny. I want a normal, thick strap. I was thinking on placing an organza (or other fabric) flower between the new strap and the dress, or maybe a brooch. Something like this:
What do you guys think?

@aguilpul: Do you guys think it would be too busy, since it already has a beaded flower on the hip? This is the flower.

@aguilpul: I’m turning my dress into one shoulder…sort of.
I’m having my dress custom made, but the foundation of the dress is Demetrios 7413. I REALLY wanted a one shoulder so I’m having it added to the dress. Here is a photoshop version of it.

@aguilpul: Phew! Glad it’s not spaghetti 🙂 I like the idea of a brooch! That is beautiful! Maybe you can find a flower similar to the one on the dress to make it flow more.

YAY! I’m glad I’m not the only one who is altering her dress to make it a one shoulder 😀 My mom is completely against it. She says that I should leave it the way it is now, but I really REALLY want a one shoulder dress and I feel it’s now or never.
I’m thinking that one my dress arrives I’m making an appointment with alterations in the store where I bought it and asking them if they can do it there. Maybe they have a piece of fabric they can temporarily pin while I take a picture to see how it looks. I plan to buy the flower/or brooch ahead. I want to take pics before deciding if I want to alter it or not.
Thank you all for your comments and if anyone has pictures or ideas, please post them :)!

Oh my goodness…That’s my wedding dress!..and I also plan to add a detachable one shoulder strap to it!! 🙂
I actually came to this website and did a search for dresses with one shoulder straps, because I’m also trying to figure out how I can add the strap. (I’ve been searching the net for months!). You can imagine how surprised and excited I was when I came across your post! 🙂
I’m considering buying satin ribbon or a slim piece of detailed fabric or applique (from a fabric store), to which I can then sew flowers (whether organza or otherwise). What do u think?

My sis did on her dress. Its a gorgeous sparkly/flowery one. It completely transformed the top 🙂 They had sample ones at the shop she bought her dress at and her alterations lady is going to attach it for her.

Here’s a dress I saw on here previously where they added a shoulder strap…good luck!
And then there is Naja :o).. yes another dress post

O_O Wow I can’t believe this post came back to life, after so many months :p
Well, in the end, I decided not to add the one shoulder. I couldn’t find the exact color of the fabric and someone on Etsy offered to make one strap for me, but it was kind of expensive for me. Sooooo, I decided to leave it as a strapless 🙂 and I’m very happy with my dress!!
