We got engaged on Saturday evening! 😀
SO and I went to a little town in the Hill Country this weekend. I thought it was for my birthday. (He’s good at this sneaky thing. I didn’t realize he had a ring yet!)
Saturday morning we drove up from Houston, it was a pretty ride, we went through the back roads instead of taking the highway. The B&B was down a dirt road, among farms. It’s “Shabby Chic”, and pretty cute. We were the only couple checked in on Saturday night so it was also very private.
We went for a walk, read a while, played with the resident cat, and then decided we’d go to an Italian Restaurant for dinner. It was about 30 – 35 minutes away from the B&B.
On the way home SO tried to pull out of the driveway and go the wrong way on a one way street – just for a few feet to the turn we wanted, but I teased him a lot, asking where he learned to drive! (Turns out he was just flustered and really excited to get back!)
We did arrive back at the B&B without incident – or traffic violations! – and I dropped my purse off inside, SO headed for the restroom and said, “hey, let’s go for a walk. I’ll meet you out there in a minute. Why don’t you play with the cat?”
The cat was really sweet… so it seemed like a good idea. He was out in a minute or two and we set out across the grass. The cat was hunting us… She’d catch up and flop over to be petted.
We headed towards the horse/cow pasture neighboring the property, but the large animals seemed to be up for the night, so we kept walking.
As we rounded the property it was sunset, and the sky was turning pink above the hill country scrub-type trees towards the west. SO put his arm around my shoulder and told me “I think we could live in a place like this.” I put my head on his shoulder and told him “Yes, I think we could too. Wouldn’t it be nice?”
Then he pulled away a little bit, (He says I looked confused!), got down on one knee and said “I love you more than anything. Will you be my wife?”
I hugged him and told him “I would love to! Yes!”
Then he gave me this pretty ring… the one that I fell in love with when we saw it at the antique place the first time, months ago, but he convinced me he didn’t like. (sneaky!!)
He’s pretty proud of himself… kept checking it out on my hand all night and the whole ride home. 🙂
I’m so happy!
