Hello Bees! You may have come across my post last week about being on the second day of my treasure hunt proposal and the excitement that kept me up all night in the wonderful hotel room SO (Now FH!) booked for us. I was so antsy to get up and get going to see what he had up his sleeve! Now that it’s been a week of engaged-bliss, I thought I would up date you all on how the proposal played out. It’s kind of long, bear with me…. Just keep in mind that it seems long to read but it was SOOOOO long to live through
On thursday, I decided to study from home and stayed home from my classes. I thought that Mr was at work as he had come and said goodbye as usual before he heads out for the day. About halfway through the day someone walks in our house and it’s HIM! He’s got a mini treasure chest (yes, an actual treasure chest with locks and chains on it!) and of course a sunflower (my favorite!). I was so shocked, because I knew it was coming but I didn’t know when and then he handed me the first card that was my first set of instructions. After packing my bags for the night and getting dressed (as per his instructions) we were ready to go.
I was given a map of lake Ontario and told that i had to mark the places on the map that we end up at. So off we went and the majority of the clues were leading me around the the trails we had walked around on our first date. Each clue had a little note from him and a key to open a lock on the treasure chest. I was so sure that the ring was in the treasure chest, and was so happy when i got more than half of them opened in the first hour (there wer 5 locks altogether). My last actual clue said that the next location was a secret… I start thinking of the possibilities and figure out that we are going to Toronto, since we never venture too far from home.
Halfway to Toronto (it’s only about an hour drive) Mr tells me to relax and that I can take a nap. Uhm, Hello! This is the biggest thing in my life so far and I’m so excited I can barely contain it hahaha there will be no napping here. I told him there was no point since we were so close to Toronto… then he tells me that we are driving for another 2 hours!! I had no clue what to say, but my mind started frantically trying to piece together the possibilities… then I had it… Niagara Falls! I told him that and he said I was right. YAY! We had never been to Niagara Falls together.
He never told me the hotel we were staying at until we pulled right up to the nicest hotel there and our room had a gorgeous falls view with a living room, fireplace, jacuzzi, the works!! All of this, coming from a man who lives by hotwire, was unbelievable. I had no idea that he was planning all of this and there was more! He told me that dinner was at 9 and we had time for a swim before.
Well, through all of this, I was seeing a side of Mr that I had never seen in all our years of dating. The planning, the details, all of it was incredible. He even had a falls view seat at the restaurant and told them “this girl is getting engaged tomorrow and she has no clue how it’s going to happen” so lucky me, got extra perks in the wine department .
The next morning (after I wrote my post on being anxious to get the day started!) Mr had a minor heart attack. The directions he had for the last places on my treasurer hunt were asking for us to cross the border. We had no passports. After a few minutes of him panicking and me pretending not to know while I got ready inthe bathroom, he finally figured out that the GPS had our location as being in Buffallo so it wanted us to cross the border back into Canada. Disaster averted lol.
We had a nice breakfast together at the Starbucks downstairs in our hotel and chatted about how excited we were and how nice it was to treat ourselves out. Seriously, we both go out and have a good time but put pampering and indulgences aside to pay off our school bills. This was the first time we stayed in a hotel that was booked through their front desk. It seems small and insignificant to some but it was such a big luxury to us that we stayed in the room relaxing right until checkout time.
Our first stop was the butterfly conservatory. It’s a pretty popular place in Niagara but Mr had never been and wanted to see it together. Cue the tourist look as we had a camera and a camcorder hahaha I think we both wanted to soak up every moment because I knew by then that the day was flying by. Well after we left, he gave me the second to last key for the treasure chest. Now I was getting excited!
We went to the Floral showhouse next which we had never been to. I never expected him to propose here. I thought for sure he would stop for a walk along the Falls and do it there. Nope, after touring the showhouse, he took me into one of the greenhouses that didn’t have any visitors and proposed. FINALLY! It all happened so fast that I could barely wrap my head around it happening. He even found a ledge to put the camcorder on so he caught it all on camera. This was something that I always said I wanted but I thought it wouldn’t happen because how the heck do you take a picture of yourself proposing and there was no photographer on our trip lol!
The 2 days that it took for finish my treasure hunt seemed like forever but it all flew by and I’m so glad that Mr had the insight to realize that what we could have experiened in a few hours wouldn’t even begin to compare to what we ended up having through the 2 days. I hope this gives you waiting bees a few ideas when you’re suggesting ideas to your SO. (I know not everyone is like that, but Mr asked me what I thought and what I dreamed of then twisted it all around to suit what he wanted and to surprise me as well. We communicated a lot when we first discussed getting married then i let him do his work) It was definitely worth the wait!
I’ll post a pic of my ring, since I loooveeeee it! Sorry for the size, I have no idea how to make it a bit smaller .
