Fortunately we’re ok and the damage looks like it will (hopefully) be fairly minimal. We had crazy strong storms blow through early this morning and then right before 6am we woke up to something thudding/ scraping across the roof. Turns out the tree had split and half of it is now leaning against our roof, literally right above where we sleep. We’re really fortunate that we weren’t injured.
So now I’m waiting for our insurance agent to open and researching tree removal on my phone because our power is out (not due to the tree)…I have a feeling this is going to be a long day.

Glad to hear you are ok. The storm was crazy last night!!! I live in Minnesota too. I hear that over 70,000 people are still without power.

Thanks ladies, it’s pretty crazy now that we’ve gone out and looked at it. It is literally resting right above our bed exactly. Scary, scary thought, and I’m even more amazed and thankful that we are safe. Unfortunately we’re going to have to have the whole tree removed (the part that is still standing is kind of precariously leaning over our neighbor’s house) and that’s going to cost an arm and a leg…we’re waiting on the estimates right now.
@NavyBride16: It WAS a crazy storm. I heard it was up to 80 mph winds?! Power in our neighborhood came back on around 8:30 this morning, but I know there are still downed lines in some places. I guess there’s a whole bunch of power lines and telephone poles that were pulled down in Apple Valley and we’ve had friends telling us about cars that were smashed under falling trees…ugh. Part of the joys in living in MN!

Thank goodness it wasn’t worse!

This is what the tree looks like. The house in the pic is our neighbor’s (no damage); the part of the tree that goes off to the right is what’s resting on our roof, and the trunk is cracked pretty far down.

@bellasperanza: That’s horrible! I didn’t hear anything until about 5:30 this morning and woke up to what sounded like hail. FH woke up around 3:30 to crazy lightening, checked the radar and just watched it out the window. My parents lost a tree in their front yard and had down power lines and trees on their block so they couldn’t get to work.
WCCO has an album of images from the storm, cuh-razzzyyyyyyyy! Looks like Dakota County took the brunt of it.

wow! i’m glad you’re all ok!
we have several eucalyptus trees in our yards and the limbs (which are practically trees by themselves) are always breaking off (wind or no wind). whenever a storm comes thru we all kind of hold our breath waiting for the crash 🙁 thankfully, no serious damage has ever been done, but it’s still scary.
