WARNING!! LONG POST!!
I only get to do this once (fingers crossed) so I’m going to milk it for all it’s worth mwahaha . But for those who don’t have the inclination or time to read my rantings, I’m going to distinguish the actual proposal for your convenience.
We were in Las Vegas from the 9th to the 15th of February and stayed at the Luxor hotel. The trip, despite little snags and dramas here and there, was absolutely amazing. We touched a stingray and saw turtles mating in the Mandalay Bay Aquarium; visited the Titanic and Bodies exhibitions at the Luxor; rode the roller coaster at New York-New York, rode all three thrill rides at the top of the Stratosphere Tower –> did I mention that I’m terrified of heights?!?; watched Cirque du Soleil’s Zarkana at Aria, posed with wax celebrities at Madame Tussauds at the Venetian and madly cheered for the Russian tsar at the Tournament of Kings in the Excalibur on Valentine’s Day.
But what really made the trip were the events on the evening of February 13. It was the most romantic night of my life and turned out to be a great reminder that life’s little setbacks sometimes serve a purpose.
That night, I was running late as usual and thus the SO went without me to pick up our tickets from Eli Roth’s Goretorium. It turned out that my tardiness was a good thing because it gave him extra time to fine-tune the plans with the staff.
Anyway, I met him for pre-dinner cocktails at Rouge before going to a romantic dinner at Craftsteak in the MGM Grand. The SO knew that I am a fan of Tom Colicchio from Top Chef, which is why he picked that particular place. The food was superb and I had the yummiest risotto and steak tartare that I’ve had in years.
Unfortunately, some drama occurred – unrelated to the restaurant – which prevented us from getting to the Goretorium by 9pm as originally planned. However, we found later that this delay worked in our favour because when we finally arrived at the Goretorium around 10pm, it was basically empty and it turned out that a group of 30 Canadians had come in when we were supposed to. So if we had gotten there at the original time, the SO’s plan to have us take the tour by ourselves would not have worked out.
***ACTUAL PROPOSAL AHEAD***
So there we were – plunged down into the labyrinthine depths of the basement of the Delmont hotel, surrounded by grotesque sights and all manner of twisted horrors. As horror and gore movie fans, we were absolutely loving every minute of it as we laughed and screamed our heads off. Well, I screamed, the SO let out a manly roar, as he likes to call it.
Finally, we reached the Goretorium wedding chapel. People were seated in the pews whilst a ‘minister’ presided over a ‘bride’ and a ‘groom’. OOPS!! We thought that we had walked into someone’s wedding! But before we could sneak out, the ‘minister ‘called us forward by our actual names. I wondered how he knew our names and when I turned to look at the SO, he gave me a knowing grin. As we walked up, I realized that whilst there were real people seated, most of them were, in fact, mannequins lol. Then the ‘minister’ said “Mr. Circe, is there anything you’d like to ask Miss Circe?” and it was at that point that the SO turned to me, got down on one knee (I was SO close to ugly crying) and said “Miss Circe, I love you so much. Will you do me the honour of marrying me?” I answered with a resounding “YES!!” and he placed the ring on my finger. Suddenly, the ‘groom’ turned to his ‘bride’, whipped out a meat cleaver, and cut off her arm! And there we were, laughing hugging and kissing whilst being showered in ‘blood’.
Lol I know it’s not how a lot of people would want to be proposed to but we are the couple whose first movie watched together was Friday the 13th – hence why he said he proposed on the 13th. We are also the couple who first said “I love you” to each other whilst watching The Exorcist. Thus to me, it was the most perfect proposal we could have had because it was very “us”. And hey, it makes for one good story to tell 😛 We’re apparently the first couple to get engaged in the actual Goretorium – though there has been another couple who got engaged in the Baby Dolls Lounge.
