We talked about it, but decided it was better to save the money-ended up giving him a card. I was thinking about a watch at first-something else that he’d wear everyday.

I bought my Fiance. A watch which I will have delivered to him the morning of our wedding day. It matches his wedding band which also matches the bracelet I bought him for Valentines Day.

I’m going to get my Fiance a watch. I figure he gave me a gorgeous e-ring – it’s only fair that I get him something nice too. I’m thinking about having it engraved with our wedding date or something else meaningful.

We’ll probably pick out the watch together. I want him to love it since he’ll be wearing it everyday.

My fiance and I are paying for most of our wedding on our own, and therefore don’t have a whole lot to spend on gifts for each other. We also aren’t planning on seeing each other before the ceremony, so we plan on writing letters to each other and I will have my Maid/Matron of Honor bring him my letter, and he will have the Bridesmaid or Best Man bring me his. This is something we’ll be able to keep forever, as it will be put in our wedding album, and something we can look back on and hopefully remember how we felt at that moment, on that day.

WHY watches, please tell me why “watches”? I don’t get it….

But I am planning on getting him a gift and it will be a dragon figurine to add to his collection. Maybe a dragon bride? LOL

I intend to get him engraved silver collar stays.  I could never afford the watch he’s had his eye on.  I wanted a 2nd wedding ring so thats my “gift”

I got my husband a sterling silver money clip. The front has his initials on it and on the back is says “I love you 6-30-12” and he LOVES it! He always uses a money clip and the one he had before was looking pretty rouch so he was so happy.

I agree about watches-my Fiance has a few but he never wears them! Everyone has a cellphone now and use that for time or look at their computers, or on the wall…regardless, no matter where you are if you really need to know the time, you have a cellphone.

But for those who wear watches and like them-awesome. If that’s what he likes, go for it! 🙂

@happyface:  asked…

WHY watches, please tell me why “watches”? I don’t get it….

Because jewellery is a classic gift for important occasions in life, and nothing symbolizes the “passage thru time” like a watch does.  When you say I Do you commit to forever with a person (or eternity… which is WHY Eternity W-Bands are so popular for women).

In the case of Mr TTR, he won’t be wearing a W-Band (he is someone who just doesn’t DO rings), so a watch is what will be blessed at our ceremony and what he’ll wear “from this day forward”… (a good metal watch also has a continuous band which means it still represents “the unbroken circle”) the sympbolism is easy to see when you think about it, and no doubt WHY watches are such a popular choice for Grooms.

— — —

@FreckledFox:  – As noted above, Mr TTR won’t be wearing a W-Band, he’ll be getting a watch instead.

In addition, I’ll be buying him some sort of “Wedding Gift” to give to him on our Big Day, but I haven’t decided yet what it’ll be.  Might be a classic piece of Jewellery (a Money Clip is one idea) or something that is more personal and represents our journey thru life together (could be about his love of Hockey, or our love of Travel etc).  Haven’t given it a lot of thought as of yet… as the Wedding is still 5 months in the future.

@This Time Round:  Wow, thank you so much for the detailed explanation… I just couldn’t understand the watch thing… i guess I hang out with watch-less people who take out their cell phones to find out what time it is! LOL

I am getting Fiance a pair of Burberry cufflinks to wear for the ceremony (and anytime in the future!).  I told him years ago that if we ever got married I’d get them for him, so following through 🙂 I was going to wait (wedding is in a year), but Burberry stopped making the ones I wanted, so I ordered them from the only place that still had some in stock! Can’t wait for them to arrive.

I agree about the watch, I have an amazing engagement ring and felt he should have something too but I gave that to him at our engagement party.

So for the wedding, I am making a Groom Survival Kit. I found it online but I changed it up a little. It will have socks, a keepsake wooden heart with our initials and date (rustic theme wedding), a snickers bar, a nip of tequila, and mints. We didn’t want to spend too much too but I wanted to do something. Irt will also be a surprise and delivered by a bridesmaid.

I am going to get him:

-Grooms cake for the Rehearsal Dinner

-A decanter set and 4 glasses engraved with our wedding date

-Lego Cufflinks

We set our limit at $100 since we’d rather spend the money on the honeymoon or a new house.  The Grooms cake is coming from our overall wedding budget as he already knows about it but everything else is technically his gift.  🙂
