I think what I would do is possibly elope now and then plan a big wedding after you get back.  I think it would be really stressful to plan it before October.

I’d plan from afar – you might not have much else to do outside of work! I planned our wedding from my desk chair.

If you haven’t been deployed before I’d think twice about that email access. My brother has been over about 6 times now in various places and almost always the 24/7 email access isn’t really 24/7 access it turns into weekly access. It really just depends on where you will be stationed some areas are certainly more reliable than others but make sure before you depend on that, that you’ll have it. Depending on how much stuff you already have planned doing it before October MIGHT be an option just keep in mind that you may not have enough time to give everyone notice to be in attendance if you have many out of town guests (but it should be ok). Booking a venue and more importantly finding a dress at this late a date would be MUCH bigger issues, pretty much EVERYTHING else can be done in that amount of time as long as your flexible with your vision. (I’m speaking as a former Event Manager not just as a bride). As far as the 2 deployments I think it would be crazy to try and have the wedding in July if you had just gotten back from a deployment in June. IF you can choose which deployment and choose to stick with July then choose the October to April. The internet access can be WAY to unreliable and god forbid something occur that prohibits internet access for a while. The idea of getting back in June sounds WAY WAY to close and you could come back to a hornets nest of issues to solve.

OHHH and just another FYI in some places the snail mail can take up to a month (sometimes more) to arrive. Like I said about the internet access it just depends where you’re stationed. Once my brother was pretty much in the middle of nowhere and surprisingly the mail got there quicker than when he was at some of the bigger bases. Which when he was there some of the mail ended up taking almost his entire deployment to get to him so it’s all really unreliable. Again he’s been over 6 times and it’s pretty much always like this.

Well if you can choose to go in October, and you have funds now to put deposits on venue caterer etc, order dress, then i say why not. If you pick somewhere nice, the food’s good and you’re happy with your dress, then sure you’ll have a brilliant day anyway! There’s kind of as much to do as you make for yourself, if you know what I mean. You can do it reasonably simple, and minimise the stress. Then you’d have April, May June to get it all finalised. Just don’t fall into the intensive DIY traps like invites etc, unless you like that kind of thing.

I think you will be able to get most things done when you are away with email.  I was busy with work and wasn’t able to meet with people very much so I did a lot by email.  You will be fine, in the end the little details don’t matter, it’s the big picture!
