We had a long engagement too. At a year and a half we had a location booked and a photographer too. I bought my dress around that time also. You can always start getting your vision together, and if you’re planning on crafting, start now. Better to get it all done early!

Research into other vendors – flowers, dj/band, videography, photobooth if you’re doing those.  Video can book up pretty fast!  Also gather together inspiration pictures, especially diy stuff if you plan to do any so that you can narrow your projects down in the months to come!

Oh My Goodness!!! Today is exactly a year and a half until mine as well!!!! I hadn’t noticed until I read your post – what a coincidence! AHHH how exciting!!!

Ok, I’ll calm down now 🙂 My main worries now are the venue and photographer (I would also be thinking about caterers if you will require them.) But other than that I think it’s great that you’ve already got those sorted, now you can just slowly start getting other things booked with no huge stress because you’ve still got heaps of time.

We are having a destination wedding, so are wanting Save the Date’s to be out by June this year to give people enough time to start saving and planning for the trip.

@newcitylights:  We started with guest list, venue, photographer, DJ.  Picked the bridal party.  And started gathering ideas for everything.

I am equally out. Photographer and venue booked, caterer is the venue, so that’s taken care of. They also do flowers, so I don’t need to find a florist. I plan on looking for a dress this fall, and beginning to look for a DJ at that time. I am choosing my bridal party this summer. I have made my save the dates but I am not sending them out until the fall (it is partially a destination for my family).

Our engagement will end up being 18 mo. The first thing we did was a budget since we are paying for the wedding ourselves. I don’t know if you guys are doing that, but it was helpful for us to know how much we had to save each month. I booked venue first, than florist, photographer, dj, etc. I had my choice of whatever vendor I wanted because I looked so early, so I say you might as well pick everyone so you aren’t stuck with a second choice vendor. 🙂 It is common in my area for people to book vendors out a year plus in advance. good luck!

You are on track! We are a year and half out also and so far we have our ceremony/reception hall booked, dress bought/ordered, photographer booked, color/theme picked, bridal party is picked and in the processes of narrowing down the Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses AND we just finished a trial run of our centerpieces. I love theknot.com because it gives me a little tracker as to what I should be looking into each step of the way.

Start researching your other vendors. If you don’t have a guest list yet start working on it. You have your colors, but are you doing a theme? Start getting together your budget and start a savings plan if you need to. Figure out where you want to honeymoon and book early! The further out, the cheaper it is. Start thinking about dresses but don’t buy one until you get closer. A lot of brides change their mind and have dress regret because they feel like they didn’t shop around enough.
