@Soon2BMrsMiles: Thanks for the tip. I will go check it out. It’s very hard being natural and I don’t ever do anything to my hair. Maybe twists or braids on very very few occassions. If not, it’s out in bun or something.

@Miss Tattoo: Nope. NYC is crazy expensive hence why I am having mine in Houston. Sometimes and sit and wonder saying it’s time to move out to ‘Hot’lanta or NC or TX or anywhere else but coastal America ๐Ÿ™

By The Way, I’m all over the board but I don’t think I’ve introduced myself on the AA board. I’m BR, living in Broolyn, marrying in Houston. I’m African and I know my mum would want a huge wedding for me but it ain’t happening. No no no. My colors are lilac, blush and gray. The wedding is slated for July but honestly, I haven’t done a lot. It sucks being an Out of Town bride but oh well, watchu gonna do? I have the big stuff done. The little stuff, not so much. I’m doing my invites now and researching make up artists for AA’s in Houston (please any suggestions would be welcome) and also looking at natural hair styles too. Hi y’all.

If it doesn’t work out, we’ll def be moving forward with out DIY wedding and I’ll still be posting my projects as they are completed!!

@bRooklynRocks – I totally feel your pain re: having natural hair! i wear mine in all its curly glory the same all day every day. little corkscrew curls and it’s short (when it’s curly; when straight, it’s a tiny bit past my shoulders). but i’m trying to find something different to do with it for the wedding and a style that will last in humid hot weather, and after 2 hair/MU trials, not yet satisfied.

@cailily – i, too, attempted to go the NYC route for a wedding for originally a $15K budget and was forced outside the city (getting married in the hudson valley). but ever since i booked my venue (of course!) i’ve seen a few deals out there and i’m happy to pass them on. the picnic house in prospect park recently offered a discount on the space rental and the caterer that’s doing my wedding upstate does weddings there also for VERY reasonable costs.

  • Wedding: April 2011

Hello Iam JC and April 8, 2011 in Madison WI is the big day.  I am so excited.  I have a 9yr old daughter and she will be my junior briadsmaid.  She is also singing “He is Holy” I am so excited.  Its not going to be a big wedding, we are going for the small and intimate feel.  Our honeymoon will be in Jamica.  We are leaving a few days after the wedding.  My wedding didnt cost me much because I plan out a year in advance so I got a lot of things during off season last year.  One of the greates things about the man I am going to say “I DO” with is that he is turely a Man of God who loves the Lord.  We have a mission statement already for our marriage.

Proverbs3:6 ” Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledsge HIM and he shall direct your path”

With God first a marriage has a strong start and a happy ending.  Blessings to all the brides to be.

Hi everyone, I am an AA bride, and I would like to say “One time for black love!” LOL Me and my hubby are actually renewing our vows on 8.6.11 after 5 years – trials, tribulations, and with lots of prayer, TRIUMPH ๐Ÿ™‚ So we feel like a party is in order. Our first wedding was in the Bahamas with about 15 people, our vow renewal will be in Miami, FL with 100 ppl. I have the venue, the photographer (we just took our “engagement” photos last Saturday YAY), the flowers, my dress/veil, and since we’re only having a maid of honor, a best man, 1 flower girl and 1 ring bearer (my 5 year old), it makes life so much easier…

Our colors are red, black and white damask, and our theme is Old Hollywood Glamour, so I’m looking at hairstyles and different touches to add…Our budget is very small compared to everyone elses, but we will have a fabulous, classy, party for….drumroll please….$6,000 or less! It can be done – pray for me please! LOL

Congrats to everyone, look forward to seeing pictures, messages, anything…Peace and love.

Hi Sista’ Bees-

My name is Keisha and I’m new to the site.

I was so excited to see this thread.  We’ve been engaged a little over a month ๐Ÿ˜€ – I was so excited and surprised when he proposed!  We just started the planning process.

We are an ‘encore’ couple and we want to have a small family centered wedding celebration.  Our wedding party will consist of our children and want the wedding to be small (about 60 people- mostly family), comfortable and fun.  Our favorite color is purple, so we are thinking that purple and ivory will be our colors with accents green.   We recently selected our venue- a conservatory near the town where I live.   We are thinking about having several events on the wedding weekend including a family bowling night instead of the bachelor (ette) parties; a family breakfast the day after the wedding and laser tag the afternoon after!

I tried to attach some pics of the venue below, but I’m not sure if it worked.  ๐Ÿ™‚

Hello fellow AA bees!

My honey and I are preparing for a fall wedding. We have been engaged for 8 months and been together 3 years. My theme is ‘A Night in the French Quarters’ and our colors are black, gold, and ivory (honey is a huge Saints fan). All of my major things are outta the way (the dress, the venue, the guest list, the bridesmaids dresses, flowers, caterer, and photographer) and I’m still tryna narrow down my choice for a DJ and invitations. So far the planning process has been pleasant for the most part, there was a time when I felt STRESSED and wanted to just head to Vegas to elope LOL but I am over that hump and all is well!

Hello AA Bees!

My name is Kelciey, and my Fiance and I are planning our wedding on 7/21/2012 in North Carolina.  I am planning a DIY wedding for about 100 or so guest. We have been engaged for about a year and together for almost 7, so I do believe that I am ready to get married.  Our colors our dark purple, white, and antique green as an assent color.  We are planning on a early evening wedding ceremony.  We are currently rying to save as much money as possible, so I am going to be making the bouquet, corsages, and boutonnieres. As well as the center pieces and bridal party gifts.  I sometimes think that I am going to be doing too much and don’t have enough time, becasue I work full time and have a very active 3 year old. But I’m willing to try anything to save some money. We are even considering having heavy appitizers verusus a full meal to save money, since our ceremony will be early afternoon. I have gotten a lot of great ideas and I am looking forward to more! Congrats everyone
