I have used the pill, nuva ring, the patch, and depo-provera … the one I was the most secure in was the depo-provera … but the next best one was nuva ring.

The issue that came about, and that is supposed to be rare, is that I had it pop out during sex a couple times, once I noticed right away and rinsed it off and put it back in, but the other time it was out for at least 5 days (we were in an LDR – he had been gone for 5 days when I found it when changing my sheets).

Just be careful with the Depo shot because it can lead to a loss in bone mass if used over a long period of time.

I use the pill. I don’t really want to have to stick something up there and leave it. My sister was on the ring and she hated it. It made her gain weight and become very, very moody. But it effects everyone differently (my mom was very happy with the Nuva rings) so there’s no saying how you’ll like it until you try it out for a couple months!

Keep in mind other options!  I use Implanon, an implant the size of a match that lives in my arm.  It’s good for three years, and it’s the most effective birth control on the market.  Best of all, you don’t have to remember to take any pills or replace any rings or anything!

I use the ortho evra patch. I like that I don’t have to worry about it for a week. As a sidenote- my sister-in-law got pregnant while using Nuva Ring. But perhaps something else made it less effective? I’d recommend the patch.

I got pregnant using a spermacide and, though I don’t want you to freak out, a friend of mine was on the pill, using spermicide, and having her guy use a condom and STILL got pregnant so there is a very slight chance you could be though it’s HIGHLY unlikely. I’d try a few different things until you find something you like and are comfortable with.

I was really against an IUD but it is pretty much my only option, I can not have any hormones and I am on meds that were created to be a fertility drug that failed bc while they do get you prego, they also kill the babes, totally sucks! Anyway, I told the dr all of the reasons I didn’t want an IUD and I was surprised at how much research has been done lately and my concerns were no longer based on facts… just sayin’. They still aren’t for everyone but I love it and never even think about it anymore, good for 10 years and I can get prego as soon as I remove it…..   Hope you find something that works for you guys, worrying really sucks and is so draining!

@GreenEyedMoon: do you still get your period on Implanon? I am on the ring right now, and I love it, but it costs me $65 a month.  I want to avoid my period as much as possible, cuz it is my most hated thing about being a woman.  If I could get a voluntary hysterectomy (we aren’t having kids) I so would!

I am on nuva-ring and I love it!

I actually take it out for sex as I am mentally conscious of it being there and it takes me out of the moment. But i just pop it out and then rinse it and pop it back in afterward. It can safely be out for up to 3 hours.
