We were at my parent’s house yesterday for lunch because my aunt and uncle came over. My uncle just came back from Greece with an adorable little t-shirt for our future baby. It has the Goddess of Wisdom, Athena, on it. Well, my husband says, “I like the name Athena. It’s a beautiful name.” My mom agreed.
ANYWAY, we’ve been keeping baby names secret (among a bunch of other things like birthing methods becuase my mom is all for natural birth whereas I am too, but I am open to medical intervention), which bothers my mom, but I told her I don’t want to be judged. We don’t know what we are having yet, but we have names in mind.
Well, I *accidentally* slipped.
Darling Husband: Do you like the name Athena?
Me: I love the name Athena. Almost more than Olivia.
*cue a FML moment*
Mom: *makes a disgusted face* Olivia? Eww, are you serious? Do I call her Olive for short? Like from Popeye? *laughs*
Me: OMG. This is the EXACT reason why we keep our mouths shut. Now I feel like a jackass that I accidentally let it slip.
Darling Husband: I still love the name Olivia.
Mom: You know what? Olivia is a beautiful name.
My mom only agreed to loving the name because Darling Husband said he loved it. She has this annoying habit of kissing my DH’s ass for everything. Don’t ask me why, lol. If I hate what she made for dinner, she will defend it, but if Darling Husband says he hated it too she will go to the ends of the earth to make him something else, so it didn’t surprise me now that she suddenly loves Olivia because Darling Husband does. I am not upset anymore. No matter the name, when my mom or anyone sees that baby they aren’t going to be like, “Oh. I automatically hate him/her because of their gross name.” They will fall in love, I know.
**Moral of the story: This is why you just don’t tell anyone your name choices. I slipped on accident, so it wasn’t intentional or to make conversation, but be careful lol.
