@megz06: I agree completely, but my story is on the opposite side of the spectrum.
We had an elective u/s done by a friend at 18w5d, and she told us we were having a girl. There are very, very few girls names that I even remotely like, but somewhere along the line (several months ago, I’d say), I fell head over heels for Elliotte. (I know, I know, so much hate for boys names turned into girls names. Whatever. I love it.)
Anyway… The night after our friend told us it was a girl, DH and I started discussing names, and nothing, to me, was even coming close to Elliotte. But he said Elliotte was really starting to grow on him, so I was THRILLED.
My sister and I are really close, so I told her how excited I was that DH was starting to come around to the name I love so much. Cue the drama. She said she was really upset because that name is on her list, and she couldn’t believe that I would use it, because she was sure that I had heard the name from her. Well… I honestly can’t remember where I heard the name (makes me think of Sarah Chalke’s character in Scrubs!), but I had NO idea it was on her list of favorites! Not to mention that she’s five years younger than me and nowhere close to having kids yet.
So then I went back to DH and told him what was going on, and we made a pact that, from now on, no more discussing names with ANYONE.
And, as it turns out, all the drama was for nothing. Because at 20w2d, we went for our anatomy scan, and the baby is, in fact, a boy! Haha… So, no Elliotte, but that’s OK. We have a boys name in mind that we really love. (It’s not Elliott, haha)
And just so you know that I’ve been keeping my word… My mom called me the other day, and she asked me if I would tell her some of the names we have in mind. I straight up told her nope! DH was so proud of me. lol
