Destination weddings are wonderful ideas and I think that they have some really great options for people. I’ve attended several and never once have I felt like they were lacking. And, a lot of destinations offer reduced price stay, or the ceremy is free if you book X amount of nights.

Try to remember that this day is about you and your soon-to-be-husband, and think about the things that are really important to you two and stick to your guns on those. 🙂

Good luck!

@kimbean: I’m right there with you… on  the hunt for a photographer I can afford, right now…  sigh.

@HappilyEverAfter54: I’ve heard of people scoping out local colleges for photography students. Depending on how important the pictures are to you, this could be an affordable option.

@sleepingbeauty88: Pictures are super super important to me… I live behind a camera myself. My budget can’t allow what I truly want though =/

Wedding costs all sound great until you add it up. And then you see all those zeros and think “how did I get myself into this?!?!?” I also live in an expensive area and totally feel your pain.

Hey girl!  I just posted about this sort of thing yesterday and the other bees were really helpful in giving me some perspective:

Considering Drastically Downsizing My Wedding Due To Stress

For us, we’ve made the decision to change the plan.  As tough as it can be to give up the original “vision” and ideas you had, it feels really good to get back to basics and do what you WANT, instead of what you’ve been told you should want.  🙂

Good luck and all the best to you….don’t have a heart attack, you have a lifetime of being happily married to get on with!

i am all for DWs!  my wedding costs, which included 10 days in Jamaica for 2 people (and 4 of those nights at a fancy honeymoon couples resort) was $15K….and that is because i splurged on several things! i could have easily done it for $10K or less.  oh, that included our BBQ at home reception plus second photo shoot for one hour, as well.

Just wanted to wish you good luck!  We started planning a couple of months ago, and I totally feel your sticker shock.  Hang in there!

I feel ya! We’ve been engaged for a year and we are finally starting the planning process. Between the venue, the photographer, and the DJ, my fiance is appalled. We haven’t even scouted out florists and caterers yet, and he’s now shooting down the idea of a videographer. Between just the music, the venue, and the photographer, we are already $15k in the hole… for only 100 guests.
