I’m moving next week and I’m having a bit of a decorating dilemma.
I’ve always decorated based upon my collection of what I like, which tends toward girly, black/white/ paris theme. Obviously that’s not going to work in SO and my home (too girly).
We are keeping my furniture for now until we get a house, so for example in the living room sofa and chair are tan, coffee table/end tables are black, Rug is black with flecks of white.
I’ve gotten rid of most of my super girly stuff that won’t work in our home, and am left with the bare basics (see above color wise). I’m thinking of what to get as far as accessories, pillows, etc. to spruce up our new apartment and am a little stuck in terms of accent colors because I’ve always just favored black, white and pink (and my second hand furniture happened to be neutral (tan) – thanks parents! ) Without the pink, I’m not sure what else can go well with black, white and tan. I guess I’m also a little nervous about “setting up our home” because it’s not just mine, it’s ours, and SO isn’t interested in picking out these things (we had a discussion about what use there is for a headboard that dragged on for a good 20 minutes, he didn’t get why one needs a headboard). I want it to look more grown up (I’m 30 but my decorating style hovers around 20-25) and neutral enough for a man to live there but interesting enough so it looks like some thought went into it.
