I am getting married outdoors in 6 weeks. By the request of FI’s parents, we are having a non-religious ceremony because we come from a background of different religions (Muslim and Christian and Catholic). However, neither me or my Fiance are particularly religious ourselves..
I’ve always been in love with Ave Maria. I know it’s a Catholic song and I’ve heard that it’s controversial for many reasons when used in weddings (sounds like funeral music, strictly Catholic song.. etc). Do you think that if I used an instrumental version, that I could walk down the aisle to it? Would this be in bad taste? If you were a guest (Catholic or not) would you find this odd?
I think it’s perfect too! I’m keeping it as an option for my soloist right now (we are not very religious either). It’s totally appropriate as a walk down the aisle song! Remember, it’s YOUR walk, no one else’s. You walk to whatever your heart desires.
mmm…I think I would opt for something else. Not that anyone would be offended, per se…it’s just that the Ave Maria is the Hail Mary. Maybe consider something else instrumental and equally as beautiful like Pachelbel Cannon in D?
