You can get a data recovery specialist to undelete them. There’s software that does it too but if you are out of your element, it’s probably best to hire a professional. Just google “data recovery” + your city and check out the reviews before choosing a specialist.

wildflowerz :  well iCloud typically puts things in the recycle bin for 30 days (there is no straight to “permanently delete” option – you have to go into the recycle bin and choose to delete them AGAIN). Also, do you have iCloud set up anywhere else? Like your laptop or phone? You might be able to recover that way. Otherwise….always best to have TWO backups (because backups fail too). I have everything on iCloud but also backed up to a hard drive via time machine (which allows you to “travel backwards in time” to do things like undelete)

If they were ever on the iCloud, they ARE recoverable. Just call Apple and they’ll help you. My husband used to work IT customer services for Apple … and that’s his advice. He’s helped loads of people recover lost data from a similar incident.

If that doesn’t work, ping me and maybe we’ll have another suggestion. 🙂

wildflowerz :  forgot to tag you

wildflowerz :  Try not to worry too much OP!!  I know next to nothing about computers myself, but my husband is a web developer and knows a lot about them. My understanding is that (unless your harddrive is completely shot) most things can be recovered. I’ve gotten stuff back that I’ve accidentially deleted off my phone, computer and even a memory card!! Just find someone who knows computers and they’ll be able to help you.

Good luck! 🙂

catskillsinjune :  +1 on the Time Machine.

wildflowerz :  I have the Airport Time Capsule that automatically backs up your computer over wifi, it’s also a wireless router. It’s much more expensive than an external hard drive, but I would never remember to plug the thing in and back up my stuff manually, so it’s good to have something that does it for me.

I agree with PP though, contact Apple.

Were they taken by a photographer and if so is reaching out to them a possibility? Even if the contract states they don’t store the photos past a certain date, many do and would be willing to help. Even if they charged you a minor fee it might be cheaper than paying for data recovery.
