@IzzyBear:  haha aw you poor thing 🙁

still tell them to this day, and it has been 3 years, that I was on Accutane so that they give me a good layer if oil and make sure to use the more gentle wax.

@EffieTrinket:  I used the H2O moisturizing line while on Accutane. The face lotions are THICK, but they did the trick and kept my mouth from getting cracked around the corners and kept my nose from peeling. For some reason my nose was the go to peel spot while taking it and I still get the occasional skin flakes when the weather changes.

@Mrs_Amanda:  Everytime I went to her (after I was done with Accutane) she asked if I was on any medication lol. She never let me live it down

@EffieTrinket:  I know you can order it, but I have also seen it at Ulta and TJ Maxx. When you first look at it you’re thinking , ” there’s no way I’m putting this thick lotion all over my acne prone skin”… But by month 2 you’re practically bathing in it because your skin absorbs it so fast!

@EffieTrinket:  ugh, yeah I am missing New Years too. Luckily, I got my bday. : ) BUT, I think it is okay to have one drink. My doctor said DON’T, but she also said…most people probably do. haha

The lotion is CeraVe…there is an AM and PM version.

Just wanted to add my two cents. I have used literally every anti-acne product known to mankind. You name it, I’ve used it at least twice. Accutane worked really well for me and the only side effects I had were dryness on my lips. I know others who have used it and who had terrible skin and now look like clean and clear commercials, and had no side effects. My acne also never came back quite so bad after I stopped, but it did come back because I had wonky hormones (which I wish someone had tested me for much, much earlier!!!) so now I keep it under control with other things (if you want to know more PM me). I did have some major issues with depression, but I’m not sure how much of that is attributable to the Accutance because I only got it years later.

Good luck – I’m sure you’ll look gorgeous on your birthday and wedding, Accutane or not!

Edit: Changing my diet also helped a ton – I wanted to add that. If you want details PM me. =)

Back in the 90’s I went through an extreme bout of adult acne.  I took Accutane for about 4 or 5 months and my acne went away, completely!  The only side effect I had was my hair started falling out about 4 months later, after I completed treatment.  It seriously freaked me out.  I was considering cutting my hair, but got a perm and that really helped with the volume.  If you have severe acne, I would go for it!

My best friends brother took accutane as a last result and I’m told that he did EVERYTHING possible because he was deathly afraid of having to get on accutane in the first place. Creams, topicals, prescriptions, meditation, going vegetarian, etc. Nothing worked and he finally caved in and took the accutane for the first round. In the end unfortunately it didn’t work for him and he was diagnosed with Chrons (sp?) disease two months after with horrendous intestinal problems. My heart breaks for the poor guy because he went through all that for nothing as it didn’t change his acne whatsoever besides adding dry skin to the picture.

Be careful. Pay attention to your body and if you feel like it isn’t working for you stop taking it! I know there has been quite a few success stories but it can be deadly if you don’t pay very close attention to your own body and how it reacts to the medication. Good luck with your decision!

Hi, it looks like this is an old thread, but I wanted to add that I took Accutane about 6 years ago and am so glad I did. It was definitely a heavy duty medication and I remember having some side effects, like the really dry skin and just feeling weird, but for me personally it was very worth it. The difference in my skin is dramatic, and it feels amazing to no longer be embarrassed about my skin. My skin is still clear and I’m hoping it stays that way. They will monitor you very closely so you can stop taking it if it doesn’t work out. Good luck!
