Ask your dermatologist about Spironolactone (anti androgen) OR Diane-35 (a specific kind of bcp that has an anti androgen).

Unfortunately, like in our cases, when the shit’s hormonal no amount of topicals will clear you up consistently.

Try to eat less sugar and I found the CVS brand acne cream worked the best to be honest. I’ve tried different ones, that was the best.

gemmabuzz :  Have you/your doctor considered Accutane? My Maid/Matron of Honor used to have horrible shoulder/back acne & it worked like a charm for her. If that is overkill, I use Retin-A for my face, and I’d imagine they also prescribe it for body acne as well.

gemmabuzz :  Have you tried witchhazel?  Another bee recommended it (I wish I could remember who!!) and it cured me – I used to have wicked adult acne, all gone now.

saragrace567 :  Accutane us usually considered an absolute last resort option

Go to the dermatologist, they are the experts! Don’t mess around with products too close to your wedding date though. I went on Spironolactone before my wedding and it helped.

I would also suggest witchhazel. And I know this is not a great suggestion, but like you said, tanning usually helps. That is obviously not a good long term solution though!

If the doctor thinks it’s hormonal, you need to fix it from the inside. I’d cut out sugar, dairy and gluten to see if it makes a difference. I know it’s a lot to avoid, but diet is always the biggest factor in my hormones and therefore my skin condition.

i have a tea tree body wash that has helped very much with body breakouts. also changing the bed sheets 1-2x weekly… sensitive skin can be triggered by any sweat/dead skin on the sheets.

If tanning helps clear it up, do you maybe need more Vitamin D?

Seeing a dermatologist would be helpful. I have hormanal acne as well and for my face chemical peels and retain A cream have been a major life savor. I have also heard good things about light therapy (you can buy an at home neutrogena kit). Acne that clears up with sunlight usually does bc the high wavelength kills bacteria and is usually responsive to light therapy. Light therapy is safer than tanning because it uses only certain wavelengths in visible spectrum not UV, so not carcinogen.

You may want to try silicone pore scrubbers with your favorite facial wash. They may be called pods, depending on the brand. Those things are excellent for exfoliation! Good luck, bee.

Hey I totally understand how you feel. I used to suffer from this terrible ailment myself. Accutane changed my life. I only went on it for 3 months and it eliminated 95% of it for the next few years.

Beware of the side effects though and think through it before you commit. At the time, I told myself “who cares, anything is better than acne.” But actually the symptoms have been quite bad, though I have no proof I can feel it in myself.
