My finace and I don’t “have a song” so picking our first dance is proving to be harder than expected. We don’t want a typical wedding love song, in fact we are really considering Umbrella by Boyce Avenue but the lyrics of “now that it’s raining more than ever” make it seem like something bad is going on. But that is the feel we want. Does anyone know any great love songs- not blatant love songs- that could be played with an acoustic guitar as our first dance?
What do you mean about not a blatant love song? Do you want a song that is just pretty, but not about love? Or do you want something that isn’t a super famous love song? Or something a bit bittersweet like Umbrella?
Yellow by Coldplay comes to mind immediately as a non-sappy acoustic song.
You don’t necessarily have to stick to songs that can be played with an accoustic guitar. Our reception musician was an accoustic guitarist. Our first dance song was, “Dance Me to the End of Love,” by Leonard Cohen. Since that wouldn’t have worked well with just a guitar, she did the first dance song karaoke style, then used just the guitar for the other pieces she played.
