Just finished our menu seletion except for 1 thing- and “action station” for cocktail hour. We have it down 2: a grilled cheese station or a stirfry station.
The grilled cheese station includes muenster with canadian bacon, swiss with heirloom tomatoes, american with cherrywood smoke bacon, and havarti with slow smoked ham.
The stir fry station has asaian bbq pork, chicken, or shrimp with veggies and lo mein noodles in a sweet soy ponzu sauce.
Which do you think will work better?

BiddyC23: I think it depends on what else is on the menu. On the face of it though, grilled cheese would be easier to manage with a drink in your hand.

I love both stations. However, for cocktail hour, it’ll be easier to have a grilled cheese station.

julies1949: My menu is kinda long… but here it is:
Cocktail hours: artisan cheese display, grilled and raw market veggie display, 6 passed hor d’oeuvres (stuffed mushrooms, pot stickers with a ginger dipping sauce, tomato and mozzerella with a balsamic drizzle, jumbo lump crabmeat on a crostini with a ceaser drizzle, sea salt crusted ahi tuna on a crispy wonton, and shrimp nachos), martini glass mashed potatoe bar, seafood bar (clams, oysters, shrimp cocktail, and crab claws), and the last undecided action station.
Dinner: House salad (mixed greens, tomatoe, cucumbers, in a creamy balsamic), then the option of filet mignon in a red wine reduction or chicken and shrimp duet in a lemon caper sauce.
Desert: Wedding cake!!! ice cream sundae bar, and viennese table (cupcakes, brownies, fruit tarts, cannolis, cheesecakes, ecaliars, cake pops, and chocolate covered strawberries)

Are you having a super long cocktail hour? That is a LOT of food for cocktail hour and very little for dinner AND you want to have grilled cheese or a stir fry? Sorry but those are “meal like” options and with a mashed potato bar (another Meal type food), I would think everyone would be full from just your predinner dinner.
It sounds elegant upscale food type except the mashed potato bar, grilled cheese and stir fry. Nix those and I think you will be fine.
My vote for the above is neither. They don’t seem to fit with what you have already.

Grilled cheese sounds easier to eat and less messy than noodles with sauce.

I freaking love grilled cheese so I’d go with that.

MrsTtoB: That’s actually a pretty standard cocktail hour in my area. I already cut several things out (a carving and pasta station being the major cuts). I dont see the need to cut anything since it doesnt save me anymore money. As for grilled cheese and mashed potatoes not being up scale, I guess they aren’t. But I think the varied options will be a crowd pleaser.
I think dinner is fine, the portions are pretty large and there is a vegetable and starch side for each. Plus a ton of dessert if anyone is still hungry.
