Hi @LastGirlStanding: first and foremost… a BIG Welcome to “the Hive”

Sounds like you guys are on track in that you’ve actually gone ring looking / shopping together (I was worried when I started reading your post that it was gonna be another “I moved in at the promise of Engagement… but still nothing happening”)

That is a good sign

Sounds like the proposal will indeed be coming soon

So hopefully you won’t be a member of the WAITING community very long (you might want to add your name to THE LIST tho in the meantime… it is a good way for those on the WAITING BOARD to see / become familiar with who the posters are on this section of WBee)

Lol, had to smile when you told the bit about how your tastes changed

A reason that we advise all gals to go out and try rings on (preferably with your Mr in tow).  It can be an eye-opening experience for both members of the couple.

Rings can look vastly different on one’s hand… not all rings flatter all hands.  And what you thing you loved in photos may be a no go once on.

Going browsing / shopping together also means you learn a bit more about jewellery (Diamonds, Gems) and how it is priced etc (for Diamonds the 4Cs… well actually 4 of many Cs)

CARAT SIZE – CUT – COLOUR – CLARITY

CERTIFIED – CONFLICT FREE / CANADIAN – COMFORT – and COST

All have a role to play if you are Diamond Shopping… and every gal & her guy has to work out a combo of elements that make sense (are a priority) to them with the budget that they have to work with

Blue Nile has one of the best on-line websites for Diamond Education, and understanding how Diamonds are priced… a wonderful resource tool (personally tho I won’t buy a Diamond on-line… for me it is VERY IMPORTANT to see it in person)… BUT their website can let you play around with the many variables (Cs) to see what something is worth.

Anyhow…

Again, welcome aboard… and look forward to seeing you around “the Hive”

Welcome! It sounds like you’re on the right track. I like that you gave him ring suggestions but that the final decision is going to be up to him so there’s still an element of surprise. I’m in the same relationship boat you’re in with two mortgages. His home is arguable way fancier and nicer than mine, but mine is cute and quaint and cozy! I decided to rent it out short-term (3-5 months lease) so I can decide whether to sell it or not after we get engaged. Didn’t want to make that big decision before an engagement…
