I found a dress that I love… I actually bought it (it didn’t come from a bridal store). It is about 4 inches to small across my back (around the shoulder blade area). I want to take out the zipper and add a corset, to give me the space I need.
Can a seamstress do this? Do I buy the corset or does she? Where on earth would I go to find a corset to give her to sew in the dress? How much $$$ do you think we are talking here?
I’m not sure what to do…. not sure it’s worth it… the dress only cost me $90

it can be done – the seamstress would probably add some boning to the back of the dress to support the corsetry, add a modesty panel and make loops for the lacing. That said, it will probably cost more than you paid for your dress to find a seamstress who will do a good job of it.
However! Is there extra fabric from your hem? You might be able to just add a panel to either side of the zipper, making your dress fit beautifully and saving yourself the expense of a corset back.

@Dragonsus: No extra fabric from the hem… and I WANT a corset back. Fiance and I both love the look of a corset back !!

I plan on having a corset added to my dress if doesn’t have one already (haven’t chosen my dress). I’ve asked several different seemstress about the cost and have been quoted anywhere from $50-$75. That’s in South Carolina though so I’m not sure what it will be like in your area. I love corsets! Good luck and congrats on finding your dress!
