Hello! My fiancee and I are trying to decide on engagement rings, and we were wondering how feasible it would be to get a pair of bands now and add solitaire-stye diamonds later for our wedding. Does anyone have any experience with something similar? Would it restrict our style/metal choices for the bands?

It might be easier to get a solitaire setting now and set it with a CZ or other gem and then upgrade to diamonds later.

I guess you could get the basket soldered onto the band, but that doesn’t seem to me like it would create a ring with good structural integrity. Ask a jeweler what their thoughts are.

Hmmm okay, thanks for the ideas!

I don’t think it would make sense to do that. An option is to get your plain bands now, and when you are ready for a stone buy a new setting but keep your plain band as wedding ring.
