My wonderful boyfriend proposed to me last weekend with his mother’s engagement ring. It is a white gold ring, a small solitare in a cut that is evidently no longer available (I think it’s 35-40 years old). Her idea, and our plan, is to use it as a base for a custom ring. I love antiques and emeralds, so I would love to be able to add the diamond to an antique ring of my own choosing. However, I don’t know how complicated that process is. It seems it would be easier to design a new ring around the existing diamond, but that sounds expensive!
Has anyone designed their own ring with an existing stone, and/or created a custom ring? Would you mind sharing a price range? I wouldn’t want to spend more than $3,700 on either one (that is the cost of my “dream” antique ring) and preferably less. Emeralds aren’t too expensive from what I understand, and I’d go with whatever silver-colored metal is cheapest (white gold)?
