Me! We used my fiance’s mother’s diamond in my ring. It’s the side stone in my 3-stone setting.

Going custom wasn’t what we initially planned to do, but that’s what ended up happening after I didn’t find my “dream” ring. I described what I was looking for to the jeweler, we picked out a center stone and another side stone that was similar to the one we already had, and that was the last of my involvement.

From what I understand though, the process was pretty painless! They jeweler drew it up in CAD, showed it to my fiance and he approved, then they made a model of it. It sounds as though there was good communication throughout the whole thing.

I thought custom = expensive, but at least in my case the opposite was true. The designer settings I had been looking at online cost more than my ring total. I’m not 100% sure of the cost but I think it was under $5,000 – and that’s including purchasing a center stone.
