Hey everyone!
I purchased and received my dress (http://www.modcloth.com/shop/dresses/aisle-be-there-dress-in-lily) and love it. I definintely need to take it to a tailor because I’m a small shouldered person.
I want to add a navy sash (as well as navy petticoat), but I’m not sure on what size thickness. I just want a plan strand of ribbon, basically. Is there a place to “try out” sashes? I don’t want to order a bunch of sashes from Etsy, unable to return them.
Thanks!

You could go to a craft store like Michael’s and buy some ribbon at varying widths to see what thickness you would like. That would be an inexpensive way to go. Otherwise you can try bridal stores but they usually aren’t thrilled to help unless you’re forking over a lot of money. David’s Bridal might be an option though.

A bridal store may be willing to help – when I went they had a hat box of sashes to buy from around £75 (about $100) so you may find the craft store option much cheaper however. Generally a thinner ribbon or sash will be more sophisticated but a wider or more detailed one will be more of a statement unique piece. You could always pop into a fabric store or haberdashery to look at materials as you may find it pretty easy to sew or even use press-on iron hemming material to make it firm – making a no-stitch option for a sash!

I decided to go with an Etsy shop that allows complete refunds. I ordered a silver/gray sash, so I’ll see how that goes.
Thanks for the help 🙂
