I am new to the boards, but have been lurking and want to thank everyone for the great posts.
I am buying a fantastic dress that is new this season (Allure 2559), so there are no pictures of real brides let alone any alterations. I am planning to have the neckline made into more of a sweetheart. But I’m also considering adding lace to the hem as I love that on other dresses and wish this dress had it. But I can’t find pictures of other dresses that have had that alteration made even in another dress style.
I’m attaching a pic of myself in the dress as well as the model pics so you can see how the lace goes almost to the end of the skirt, but not all the way. I don’t have a good sense of whether it would look awesome or disjointed as it would stop and then start again. I’ll take votes or pictures of this alteration with other dresses.

Here are a couple of examples I found online with lace at the bottom of the dress…. sorry I couldn’t find better ones.

@robin6479: Beautiful dress! I think you could add a lace hem if that’s what you want. Your best bet would be talking to a seamstress about it, they will know how easy/doable it would be.

Thanks for the fast responses and compliments! And keep voting – it’s pretty close to 50/50. The sales person said the seamstress has added on lace to hems before, so I do think it’s doable. I just wish I could see what it would look like! There’s so many good before/after pictures here of necklines, that it made me feel comfortable about the sweetheart change.

Have you asked if Allure could extend the lace appliques to the hem? If they did it, it would ensure that the lace matches.

@robin6479: your dress makes m wish I got buttons 🙂 lovely!

@julies1949: The store is going to call Allure today to see how much it would be to order the same lace, so it definitely would match. I just wonder if it would look funny as there would be a one-foot (or so) gap between the end of the lace on the dress and then the hem.
@bump: You could have buttons added to yours if you like it! Unless you are already married:)

Make sure you get an estimated, that sounds expensive 🙁 I do think the dress is beautiful just the way it is!!

Turns out, the company only sells the appliques separately for $20 each and so it would be crazy expensive! Guess I will just go with it- it’s gorgeous as is!
