My Grandmother is a widow.  The address envelope was “Mrs. John P. Doe” and the inner was “Grandmother”.

I’m also a widow and the last wedding invitation I recieved was “Mrs. J. Paul Doe”.  My husband went by his middle name.  The inner envelop was “Jane”

We did all of ours to Mr and Mrs Surname. I can tell you know I would be really annoyed to receive anything to Mr and Mrs hisfirstname Surname.

It really bothers me to receive an invite that Mr and Mrs John Doe, erasing the woman’s name from the address.  As PPs have said, it’s 2016, and I think this piece of etiquette could use an update.
