- Wedding: October 2013
We finally got our pro pics back and I’m so excited to share!! We got married on Thursday, October 10th after having been together for 12 years. We had a small intimate wedding with 38 of our closest friends and family and it was everything I hoped it would be.
I didn’t DIY a lot, but we actually saved a lot of money by buying things instead of renting. We bought all of the gold beaded chargers, tablecloths, runners, candelabras (which came in white and I spray painted in rose gold), all of our lounge furniture for cocktail hour (we bought almost all of this at HomeGoods and then made matching slipcovers for everything), and all the dishes used for the dessert bar. So yeah… our basement is full of all this “crap” now :-P. We ended up opting to buy instead of rent because we either couldn’t find exactly what we wanted or the cost to rent was absurd and it made more sense to just buy the stuff. We also bought and own the bench that we got married on and it is now displayed in our home, which I LOVE.
I had two pairs of shoes…
A silly little gift for my Darling Husband. I bought a Buzz Lightyear keychain and had a tag made on Etsy that says “To Infinity and Beyond. 10.10.13” When we were 15 or 16 we watched Toy Story on TV together and my Darling Husband has said this phrase to me all the time since then.
My Bridesmaid or Best Man and now SIL 🙂
Our first look. My Darling Husband sat on the bench with his eyes closed and I came up and transferred from my chair onto the bench next to him.
Our favors – miniature bottles of champagne
Our guestbook was a Royal Typewriter made in 1901.
Our rings. I had my DH’s ring custom made and the design mimics the coast of Istanbul (one of our honeymoon destinations). The black diamond is placed on the part of the coast where Sultanahmet is located, which is the area our hotel was.
Our cake was one large layer of red velvet and 2 smaller layers of chocolate with raspberry chambord filling. Our icing was buttercream that was made super smooth so it has the look of fondant. Sugar flowers.
Mother son dance. My Darling Husband doesn’t really dance and this was a total surprise to his mom.
I love how our flower girl is sneeking a peak of our kiss in this one…
At the end of the night we surprised our guests with a confetti canon. I had been trying to figure out what song to play during the confetti and I finally settled on “What a Feeling” by Irene Cara. My mother and I are very close and she has done SO much for me, especially with my medical condition. Her favorite movie in the world is Flashdance and my stepdad, Darling Husband and I give her such a hard time for it because we just think its so awful and cheesy lol. There have been many times that my stepdad hid the movie from her so that he didnt have to watch it for the nth time. Playing this song was a total nod to her. As soon as it came on she got the biggest smile on her face and screamed, “OH MY GOD I CANT BELIEVE YOU PLAYED THIS!!!” Oh and by the way… my name is Alexandra and that is also the name of the main character in that movie (which came out 3 years before I was born). She will never admit it, but I am quite sure that I was named after that film LOL.
We saved a bunch of the confetti and we’re going to do something special with it on a big anniversary (throw it off a bridge in Paris or something, who knows).
Overall we had an amazing day and I love our photos. The only thing I’m a little bummed about is that the pictures didn’t really capture our lighting very well. Our photographer was AMAZING but she does best in natural light and I think the flash whited out some of the room. Here is a guest pic that kind of shows the lighting a little bit better…
