Fiance always goes to bed before I do, and for the past few nights I have been startled by him yelling/crying out very, very loudly in his sleep. This has actually been happening a lot over the past few months, but this week it’s happened 4 nights in a row. I always dash into the bedroom, terrified that something is wrong, to find him unaware that he made any noise at all. He will talk to me afterwards, and actually carry on a conversation, but I can tell that he is not actually awake.
I always tell him about it in the morning and he is completely shocked that it happened. He has no memory of it whatsoever.
I can understand why he doesn’t sleep particularly well—his teenage brother passed away very tragically, and the one year anniversary of his death is coming up. Also, since his brother’s death, FI’s parents have both gone into a complete spiral mentally. So all of that, plus job pressures, plus wedding planning is a lot of stress…although he never complains (he tries to be the “tough guy”).
Does this sound like night terrors? If so, what on earth do we do about it? It doesn’t seem to bother him, since he never remembers it, but I really hate that it happens to him. It also terrifies me when it happens.
