Depends on what you mean by “popular”.  We looked at having a reception for a friend of mine and some of the places we looked at (Art Institue, Navy Pier – Grand Ballroom and The Atrium, John Hancock and Burnham Park Yacht Club) were all booked on Saturdays more than a year in advance and some of the more popular dates / holidays were booked 2 years.

What venues are you looking at?

She moved her wedding out of downtown and just had it planned for a hotel reception.

Chicago can be tough…. and expensive.  Especially if you want the popular spots on a popular date.  if you are open to Fridays or a weeknight, sometimes there are dates open sooner.

Good luck.

Yep – we also looked at the Cultural Center.  Like I said, I would say at least a year…. but you might be lucky – depending on what date you are looking at.

@LindyLu:  I just booked with Salvage One last week for a Sunday night in September 2013. For Saturday nights, they are booked through November 2013. Based on what planners are telling me, Salvage One is one of the “worst” with needing to book early. I’m guessing you still have to book about 14 months out for Newberry and AA.

I would suggest you call your top 3 places and check availability.  It’ll all depend on what month you want to get married.  Keep in mind that some of these venues get booked for holiday parties, too.  Good luck!

@LindyLu: I would say at least a year, and that might be pushing it if you’re looking to get married in a popular season.

Actually, Salvage One is booked for almost all Saturdays through March of 2014. We booked them back in January, but went for a visit this weekend. When we were talking, we asked how busy they were and she told us that all they have left in 2013 is Sunday dates.

@ohmybears48:  That’s crazy!!  I have never been to a wedding there before but I hope to someday since it must be an incredible venue!

  • Wedding: June 2013

Chicago Cultural Center bride here! We went venue shopping two weeks ago and were shocked at how quickly everything had filled up. We went to Cafe Brauer first and they didn’t have any availability aside from Sundays. With the size of our guest list, we also felt like that place wasn’t the perfect fit, so moved on.

We walked into the Cultural Center and fell in LOVE with it. I had initially reached out to the coordinator to ask for available dates for late spring/early summer of 2013 and there were a few open. By the time we did the walkthrough, there was only one left (June 22)! We feel blessed to have been able to book for a Saturday night. I would advise to definitely start moving fast on some of the more popular Chicago venues, though. I already feel so behind the rest of the 2013 brides!
