Hi everyone, I have been feeling very anxious over this issue and I wanted to know what you all thought about it to put my mind at ease (I do tend to overthink and worry too much, and hearing uplifting things from other people eases that).
I was on the birth control pill (Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo) for about 6 months or so, but I went off of it after finishing up with my pack from the month of May because I had foot surgery and wanted as little drugs in me as possible. I am 20 years old, by the way. I haven’t resumed the pill since then. I had my first “non-pill” period about a month after I stopped the pill (in June), and then another period about a month after that (in July). They were shorter and lighter than my usual periods before the pill, and my symptoms (cramping, backaches, boob tenderness, etc.) weren’t as bad as they used to be, which was a relief. Then this past month, in August, I got my period on time, but it was much shorter and lighter than the two previous ones, enough to worry me. My boobs stayed tender after it ended, though the tenderness decreased, and I feel ilke they have gotten a tiny bit bigger. Basically, I’m paranoid that I’m pregnant.
You should probably know (and you’ll probably laugh at me, this is how paranoid I am) that since going off the pill, my s.o. and I haven’t had sex, though we’ve done almost everything else under the sun. We use condoms even for that stuff. Is it possible for me to have gotten pregnant? I probably sound totally ridiculous, but the light period and my boobs are making me worried. Is it normal to have this sort of change in your periods a few months after going off the pill? Is it possible for my boobs to miraculously be going through a small growth spurt at my age (that would be awesome!)? Thanks in advance for your input!

I would talk to your doctor about this. Any major change in periods could mean something else is going on with your body, although it doesn’t sound like it’s highly likely you’re pregnant 🙂
I experienced the complete opposite after going off the pill and most girls I know have too – the periods get way worse, longer, and heavier.

My boobs did grow a bit in my early twenties. It’s possible to get pregnant from dry humping or something similar but really unlikely.

Very unlikely to be pregnant. It is very common for your period to be thrown off for a few months as your body tries to sort itself out. I would get a cheap dollar store pregnancy test to rule it out if you’re worried.

I think its just your body adjusting to the hormonal changes. I have had loads of issues since going off the pill, and I’m not sexually active yet, so you probably are not pregnant!

I think it’s unlikely as well, but pick up a test to ease your nerves. I took a break from the pill for 2 months recently after being on numerous kinds for years. My non pill periods were horrible, just heavy and painful but I had to take a test too. I had my boobs done and my period was 2 weeks late…yikes! Side effect from surgery. You can get a pack that has 2 tests from like CVS or Rite Aid for pretty cheap. That way, if you’re super paranoid, you can take two!

I’m actually going to see my doctor for something unrelated, so I think I’ll ask him about my periods then! Thanks for the advice everyone, I feel better now 🙂 I might take a pregnancy text next week just to be sure, but I don’t feel so anxious anymore 🙂

Need help again! I didn’t take a pregnancy test because I am no longer experiencing sensitivity in my breasts – but that is because yesterday, a week and a half after my light period ended, I got my period AGAIN! Ugh. Is it normal for my periods to be this out of whack after I get off of birth control? I will stress again that I haven’t had sex after being off of the pill, and the things my s.o. and I do that aren’t sex, we do with condoms and his penis is not near my vagina (no dry humping). Also, he is studying in China for the semester and left more than a week ago, so we haven’t been able to do anything (obviously) since then, and won’t til December. He left a few days after my last (light) period ended.
This period was very unexpected (2 weeks early), but it is a little heavier than the last one, and though I wasn’t expecting it I did have my normal period symptoms beforehand and now (bloating and breast tenderness before, now I have bad cramps and lower back pain, all signs of my normal period). Also, I have been very stressed lately. My s.o. and I are going to be apart for longer than we’ve ever been apart before, I just transferred to a new university, I’m going through a slight depression, and my family is going through major drama with my birth dad. So once again, is my period just wacked out or is it possible that I’m pregnant? Gosh I sound crazy when I write that, but I want to be sure!

Your period is just whacked out because your body is trying to figure out what to do now that you’re not on the pill. If you’re THAT worried, just take a pregnancy test!
