I don’t really want to do guest book so I was thinking about doing advice cards and having a small birdcage to put them in. I want to just use this as the regular card box too because it seems a little pointless to have two of them but I’m not sure if guests will understand. I’ll have a small sign saying something like “Advice for the new Mr. and Mrs.” Should I also include something to the effect of “place your cards here” ? I don’t want to it to seem like I’m expecting cards from people and they might not understand that I’m trying to explain that advice cards AND regular cards go there. Or am I completely overthinking it and people will get it fine?

How about “Cards and Advice” with the stack of advice cards next to the box?

I like this.
I suppose you could also get a cheap greeting card, put it in its envelope and address it to yourselves and stick it in the bird cage as a demonstrative. People would see it and go, “Oh cool, I can put my card here.”
One suggestion/concern – if you’re combining your guest book alternative with your card receptacle, will it be right by the entrance? What sort of place is your venue? I might be anxious about cards getting stolen (it happens, sadly), and I think it’s usually best to have the card box further from the door, somewhere it would be difficult for some random person to get to it and remove things unnoticed and make a fast getaway. 🙂

Both good ideas thanks!
It’ll be at the reception not close too the door so not too worried about that!
