It’s very regional mainly Ontario and Manitoba, they’re also called wedding socials. Mainly a big party where the whole community can buy tickets to support the couple and in exchange get a big party/booze/dancing/prizes etc- they’re usually a lot of fun if done right.
OP I think it sounds like you have a good plan I think tickets at $10 is reasonable – I also like pp suggestion of ticket stub being used for door prize

It certainly can be! I just talked to my friend and she is having serious second thoughts on the B&D as it’s so much money to outlay at the beginning with no guarantee of a profit or even breaking even. She doesn’t have a real wedding party so she is thinking of doing it on her own. We shall see.

Thank you to everyone for the suggestions so far. I talked to the bride today and she is having second thoughts on this. She doesn’t have a wedding party that will take the reigns on this and she and her fiance are also doing the wedding (On a Grand River Boat Cruise where he proposed) themselves. She was married once before and only broke even on it so she is antsy about the significant cash outlay just to put it on (Hall and DJ is almost $1000) with no guarantees of making money or even breaking even.
So things are on hold for now while her fiance and her figure things out. Until than, any suggestions are greatly appreciated as this may sway her if she sees money at the end of the rainbow instead of financial ruin.

“this may sway her if she sees money at the end of the rainbow instead of financial ruin“
This is not how you should look at your friends.
