Relax and enjoy yourself!  Try on styles you think won’t work on your body type.  Don’t bring a handful of people – too many opinions that will overwhelm you.

Wear a strapless bra

Good luck!

the shop should have one for you to use.  you can wear a regular bra and just tuck the straps in if you need to.

take water and a snack.  and your camera!

try on a bunch of different styles.  You’ll be surprised how different a dress looks on your body as compared to the hanger

just have fun!

Ask your consultant what she thinks and try on every style there is! Even if your consultant pulls something you’re not sure about, try it anyway. The dress I ended up buying was ‘Eh’ on the hanger and then I put it on and couldn’t leave without it!

Ditto on wearing a strapless bra.

Wear heels that you can slip on and off easily. It’s really hard to step into a dress with heels on but you need them for the length!

Bring 3 people tops! And take everything they say with a grain of salt. It’s about you and what you like, not them.

Have fun!!!!!

Don’t wear a thong!  🙂  If you do, and you don’t have a petticoat on, the consultant will see EVERYTHING.  🙂

You can always tuck in the straps on your regular bra. I did this the first few times. Good luck and have fun!!!

I ditto not wearing a thong! Don’t run out and buy a strapless bra just for this occassion. If you end up needing one for your dress, you can buy the exact one that suits it later.

  • First things first, check out what designers the store carries and then go to their website(s) and get an idea of what you like. Write down some style numbers or even print off some pictures.
  • Don’t worry about a strapless bra, I got one from the store to use while trying on.
  • Don’t be afraid to try on styles you wouldn’t normally like on the rack. “THE DRESS” was one at first glance I thought was ugly – and said if I liked it, I’d have to get it in another color. After trying it on I was in love and it’s the one I bought, same color and all.
  • Take some bottled water, you’ll get hot and thirsty!
  • Don’t be afraid to leave, get lunch, and come back if you’re unsure. I had it down to 2 dresses, leaning towards one. I was getting overwhelmed so we left and went to lunch. We returned after lunch, I tried it on again, and ordered it.
  • Aside from that just keep an open mind, and remember, it might not be “fun”. It’s not all a hunky dory episode of “say yes to the dress”, it actually is more stressful!

Go in with ideas, but keep an open mind.

And I also agree with bring water and small snacks just in case.  And take bathroom breaks if you need to LOL

Good luck and have fun!

If you’re able to get to one of them: check out the Brides Against Breast Cancer events coming up in DC and Baltimore.

It was a really great gown-shopping experience for me!
