I am 5’0 and tried on as many as possible! I loved the idea of a ballgown and I am very slim but it made me look bigger than i was and stocky so i opted for a mermaid with a bit of a poof/ruffles on the skirt so i still get a bit of that volume that i wanted but it fits my shape far better.

Just go crazy trying on dresses and you will soon leanr what suits you even though it may not be what you thought you would go for. Try every single shape out there!

@trc:  As promised, a picture of my full circle skirt, sweetheart neckline with one shoulder and jewelled detail. I’m 5’1”. It was so comfortable, made with English silk lining, and sequinned lace from Milan. My long veil is a family heirloom- I am #5  bride to wear it 🙂

Like most of the pretty petite ladies in this thread, I went for a fit and flare.

@Saus:  Beautiful dress and veil!! You look lovely.

I’m just under 5’1″ and I wore a fit & flare, trumpet.  My gown was all lace, from top to bottom. Tons of sequins, pearls, and beading. I changed the neckline from a sweetheart to straight across, because I felt like the sweetheart made it look like it was falling off me.

I was thrilled with it.  I just wish I had been thinner at the time of our wedding. I was 30 pounds heavier then than I am now.

@Soon_To_Be_Mrs_T:  I know as a short bride what I didn’t look good in, however, my shape is pretty much straight up and down. Anything with a large lace pattern tended to wear me. The mermaid gown made me look even more like a ruler. If you get a gown that has most of the pattern up top and is more plain towards the bottom of the gown it will create height.

I tried on some ball gowns that looked nice because they actually gave me a waist. A few of the A-line gowns look nice, as well. I ended up going with a drop-waist gown though.

Im 4’10” and i hated how i looked in dresses that didn’t have a natural waist. I ended up picking a ballgown because it made me feel taller. I  felt like mermaid dresses and other low waist dresses cutt off my legs.  Here is my dress 🙂
