It depends where you live. Where I live there’s always a surplus of dogs in shelters and rescues that need a home. You could look in those areas (remotely) and get a transport.

I’d also check Craigslist. Avoid the breeders at all costs of course, not encouraging anyone to promote backyard breeders and those are notorious on Craigslist. But many animals are put up for rehoming on there too. It’s worth a look, especially if you aren’t necessarily wanting a puppy. I know small rescues also post on there sometimes. I’m in Dallas TX and I’ll often see small shelters from the smaller outskirts cities post.

What’s really grinding my gears at the moment is the sheer number of “designer dog” or popular breed ads I see in local listings, going for betweek $5k-$10k!

I understand supply and demand but these kinds of prices really just encourages backyard and unethical breeding.

I’ve had friends struggle to adopt as well. I really hope the animals who go to homes in Covid don’t become victim to the en-masse “Christmas curse” with adopting animals – all fun and games until the season’s over and you have a 5-15 year committment on your hands. It shatters my heart when I think of those poor animals who’ve done nothing wrong but be victim to human selfishness, boredom and greed.

Congratulations! She’s beautiful!

Did you find her through a rescue or the shelter?
The rescue groups are always impossible to rescue through where I am, even pre COVID. But the animal shelter here always has a lot. It’s so sad.

OP are you located in a larger city or more rural? I foster cats and currently adoptions are going very slowly in my area 🙁 is try reaching out to smaller rescues or a little further out if you live in a big city
