I’d call the credit card company and get the charge removed that way.

Nevermind just saw you paid with a debit card – I’d still call and see what they say. Doesn’t hurt to ask. It’s only $46 so I’d think they’d be more likely to help you out.  If that fails, I’d try paypal again.

File a dispute with paypal they should take the money out of her accnt and refund you

Yeah definitely file a dispute, and in the meantime get a new guestbook STAT. I know I had some issues with not getting Etsy stuff on time like a welcome sign and in the end just didn’t have them, although a welcome sign you can do without, a guestbook though….

Sorry I don’t have any solutions, but just want to commiserate – the exact same thing happened to me, paid through Paypal through bank transfer and dispute occured way past the 45 day mark.  I ended up out quite a bit of money, but it was a very important lesson.  I hope it doesn’t keep you from buying from Etsy because there are a lot of awesome and honest sellers out there, you just need to do your research before purchase and always use a credit card!!

@minniemluv:  Sorry to hear about your experience. I actually ordered my guest book from Modern Shabby too. I ordered my guest book on 9th Nov 2012 and it was shipped on 14th Jan 2013. The seller was slow to respond to messages but they seemed friendly when they did respond.


I read the feedback before I purchased and most brides seems to say that their products are beautiful but they take a long time to ship things! I can’t believe they have just disappeared! I’ve just read the new negative feedback…hope etsy have disabled their account so they can’t sell to more unsuspecting brides.


Hope you get your money back somehow. This seems so unfair for the consumer 🙁

I’m on another wedding board and I see that this is the same seller and COUNTLESS other brides had the same issue. I’m sorry on two counts – that this vendor got away with doing this to so many people and that Etsy allowed this to continue for such a long time.

This person had over 90% unsatisfied customers, if I’m not mistaken! I do hope you get your money back, but I would also pay closer attention to those negative reviews in the future.

I’d contact PayPal and request an exception of their 45-day rule. With an 8-week promised turn-around time, there’d be no way to know that the seller wouldn’t have filled your order till after the dispute window. Given the nature of the item, 8 weeks to produce isn’t unreasonable.  PayPal will probably work with you on this if you remind them of that fact.
