@LadyIce:  I’ve never been, but I have lived in hurricane territory (Hawaii) most of my life. In Hawaii at least, the season is like 6 months of the year and it’s rarely an issue so I wouldn’t worry too much. It might be different in the Bahamas though. Also, my aunt and uncle stopped their for a day on a cruse they took recently and they had an amaizing time. I bet you’d love it too!

I’be been to Nassau a few times on cruises and stopped by Atlantis. It’s not cheap. That hotel is very expensive to stay in the main building. Others on site, like the Coral Towers, are not affordable. It will be hot in August. I wouldn’t worry too much about hurricane season but if you’d like, you can always spend the little bit extra for trip insurance. Nassau was fun (for me) once or twice, but the city itself..I dont enjoy it as much as St. Thomas or San Juan. Atlantis is over the bridge on Paradise Island. We did swim with dolphins at another location (Blue Lagoon) which was amazing and Atlantis has the waterpark and casino too if you don’t care for Nassau. But if your budget is tight, you may want to research a little deeper, ESP with August being peak season since kids are out of school and that’s when families travel.

cheapcaribbean.com is a good place to look for deals too 🙂

We stayed at Atlantis in Oct (still hurricane season) a few years back.  It rained the entire week.  :-/. We were so disappointed.  Everyone kept telling us the weather is never like that, but we only got 1 good beach day.  We have vacationed other times in the carribean during hurricane season and never had a problem.  If you’re worried you can purchase travel insurance.

Atlantis is expensive.  All the towers in the complex are pricey, the food is pricey, and the drinks are pricey.  We stayed at Harborside, which are more like condos.  We had a kitchen and saved some bucks by making our own meals a few nights.

if you’re on a budget I would recommend an all inclusive.  Much easier to plan & budget for.

@LadyIce:  If you’re on a budget, look into pricing at Atlantis. You could possibly spend more on food and drink then you’d spend on your room alone. Defintely look into an all-inclusive. To the best of my knowledge, Breezes is the only ‘top’ rated resort in the Nassau area. We are personally going to Punta Cana and saving a good amount of money by doing that as well.
