Hi Bees –
Could use any tips/advice/things you heard of being done for our housing situation. The time of the year (summer) and the location of our wedding makes pretty much all accomodation in the area extremely expensive (cheapest we could find that wasn’t Motel 6 was ~$200 per night). Not looking good for anything cheaper.
One option we have is house/vacation rentals from VRBO – which comes out to more like $70 per person a night depending on the house (and a lot of the houses look great!). However, I really don’t want the nightmare of arranging houses for everyone. And most of the guests do not know each other. The cheaper (and more beautiful) houses generally hold 10-12 people. We can probably afford to pay for houses for 10-20 people (close family), but not all 100.
Any suggestions on how to handle this or advice from bees that have done this before or been to a wedding where this has been done?
Thanks so much in advance!

I would just put all of the information on your website and let people figure it out. Have you looked into room blocks for local hotels? Often, those rates will be cheaper than market rates.
These people are adults and I’m sure some will know each other. As such, they can take your suggestion to check VRBO and they can rent a house. You can also take care of your family, if you like.
FWIW, we’ve been to Destination Wedding in Hawaii where everything is pricey (except for VRBO) and we took care of the lodging situation ourselves.

http://www.hotwire.com and http://www.priceline.com offer good deals and your guests can bid on rooms in the area.

Maybe a town over has cheaper rates? I know that was the case at a wedding we went to in NY

Do you have a wedding website? I would just list a selection of hotels and general price range, and then note that private vacation rentals are sometimes a good option. People can decide from there what they want to do.

Ok – thanks. I guess I should just let people take care of themselves! It’s good advice… maybe I’ll offer to put them in touch with others if they’re interested in sharing a house
