I actually don’t get the racism thing here…there is so much diversity. Asian, Hispanic, Pacific Islanders, people of every skin color and nationality. My husband is Turkish so we know a lot of the Middle Eastern/Turkish/Eastern European community too. I just don’t see any racism. I’ve never seen anyone harassed in any way for their nationality or skin tone – my fiance finds people are intrigued and interested by his nationality, and he works in Goldsboro, which is incredibly more conservative than here.

Chapel Hill and Carrboro are especially accepting of the LGBT community too. Like I said – I’d be interested to hear racism stories from the area because in the 20+ years I’ve lived here, I haven’t experienced it.

However, I (as a white girl) was a victim of racism at a job I had in Virginia.

@PinkPanda:  I PM’d you. We’ve been told by a friend who grew up here that we’ve taken things the wrong way. By no means are all people racist, at all, but there are some serious undertones to a lot of situations we’ve encountered.
