I wanted some of your ladies advice on talking to my hubby about gettin a SA. We had breifly talked about it, he got nervous and said he will only do it when we hit a year of ttc. Well, its been 8 months of ttc, my cycles are regular, chart and opk show i O… we do it at the right time. I really just want him to get a SA now, so we can rule it out completely.
Any advice on how to approach this subject when he was so adamant on waiting till a year.
We also don’t have insurance… so are you even able to get a SA without??

@Sbee82: No personal experience, but in “Impatient Women’s Guide to Getting Pregnant,” she mentioned getting an SA done just like a women would have a TTC appointment w/ her gynocologist. I have seen elsewhere that a SA is like $50-$100. There are also less accurate at home kits you could buy if he’s struggling w/ the going to the clinic part of it. Maybe do the at-home test (I think $50 on Amazon) now and if things seem okay the “real” one at the 1 yr mark. If things look not so good then he can have a “real” one done right after.
I am not passing judgement and I know this was not part of your question, but I hope you will have insurance when you get pregnant or give birth. The average cost of medical care throughout pregnancy and a birth in a hopsital can easily run $15k complication free in the US.
Sending postive baby vibes your way!

@Sbee82: I was in a very similar situation! Well, exactly the same. My cycles were perfect, timing was right… and nothing. Nothing except everyone around me getting pregnant on accident! Man it was frustrating.
Personally, I would wait until after the 12month mark. I am sure your husband is more stressed about it than he shows. That way, after the 12 month mark (if you get there) he will know you guys tried long enough. Gave his spermies hope. I know it seems a long ways away, but whatever result you get, either way, it will just make you stressed about that. Whether it be good news, then your like wtf why wont this happen?? or bad news.. & dealing with, what to do now…
Yes you can do it without insurance, i think I remember looking it up and it being $150ish.
Well, I want to add, dont lose hope! I was temping for 12 months straight! I lost my mind and hope. On cycle 12 exactly, sure enough I finally got pregnant. woohoo, he is now almost 7 months old. I was for sure, going to get an SA that next month! To this day, I have a sneeking suspicion that it was sperm issues… We do pull out method now and i never fear ill get preg on accident after that year of trying so hard!
but at the same time, I think timing was everything. looking back, the timimg of when i got pregnant was the best time out of that whole year i wanted it so bad. maybe the universe was just waiting for the perfect moment for a baby.

@CloverQueen: Thanks for your words of encouragment and I will actually look on amazon to see other options. I also hope that the universe is just waiting for the perfect timing… im just impatient lol
@aliciapdx: Thanks for the good information =) And I completely understand about the insurance comment. I actually have insurance but my husband does not. I am under 26 and am still under my parents. Yes, seems odd but their insurance is great and im still a student! My husband has a contract job which does not offer benefits… insurance is in our near future for him but not for another few months.
